At what point...

Herky's dad, I'm sorry if you didn't get the sarcasm. I'm not sure if Legend is fanning the fires here or not? If not, please explain any reasoning for grad transferring out. Moss, we understood. On and off again relationship w/Fran and after watching CJ it was pretty clear Moss's playing time was not going to go up. With Luka, it makes zero sense. If, and it's a pretty big if, Bohannon returns and is close to 100%, this is a top 15 team and possibly a top 10 team and dare I say the best team we've had since our elite 8 team. Firepower everywhere. I guess if he continues his elite play he could possibly play himself into the draft for next year. He's such a unique player I just don't see who he compares to in the NBA. Some guys grad transfer like Evelyn to go from a mid major to a power 5 for a year. For Luka IF he were to transfer what's the upside? Basing projections on everyone coming back he would be leaving a top 10-15 program where he leads the toughest conference in basketball in points and rebounds and is clearly the alpha male of the program. I"m calling BS on this. I clearly have zero inside information and maybe Legend does on this.

The nba is very different game than college.

Allot of nba teams dont run any sort of post offense and the rest don't do much. And that being said the far bigger challenge will be the defensive end.

Everyone on an NBA roster has to fit around the 2 or 3 scorers.

Itll be a tough fit. I have no worries about him leaving early.

This. Frank Kamisky stayed until his senior season at Wisc and was another big man that came to mind who could step out and hit the 3. However, Kamisky is much more agile and had very impressive handles for a big man. Iowa's offense , as others have stated, makes a concerted effort to feed Garza down low and let him do his thing on the block. Kamisky was able to take people off the dribble in addition to being a great post player, just an overall much more rounded player which is huge in terms of competing in the NBA against top level talent. I don't doubt that Garza could carve out a nice role for an NBA team, but I just don't see him being a sure fire 1st round pick this year or even next year unless he makes another huge leap his senior year in aforementioned skills IMO

There is some concern in the hoops program about him grad-transferring as well...between that avenue and the going pro possibility, no one in IC will rest easily until he makes his decision after the season.

I've heard he is very open to playing professionally in Europe. I don't expect Garza back next year.

If he can make some decent money, I don't blame him for wanting to put college behind him and start that part of his career. Never know what the family financial situation is, either, and that can always be a factor.

I don't think most Iowa fans have watched the nba in 20 years.

Garza would have easily been drafted back then. Now very unlikely he goes first round even after his senior year.

The post game is almost extinct in the nba.

The analytics guys view it as low percentage.

In the end Garzas offense will gain him looks but he won't play in the nba because he can't defend away from the basket. NBA teams, besides occasionally the Mavericks, don't play zone.

You have to be able to defend screen and roll because that's what the offense is in the NBA.

If all that Garza has available to him is Europe, and I think that's probably correct, he'll be back next year,.. Europe isn't going anywhere..

I understand the concern, but I have to think the idea of coming back to play with Bohannon, Weiskamp and CJ is also a draw. Honestly, that is looking like a top 10 team next year, right now. I suppose it depends on how strong we finish the season.

I have to believe a healthy Iowa team would not have lost 2-3 of the 5 they have lost. That would put them in the top 15 range now.

I think he really likes being at Iowa and has a pretty strong connection with the coaches. He could finish this year on everyone's radar and come out next year with a much better team that could make some noise.

Just judging from Luka's interactions with his coach and his teammates, I would say he seems to really like playing at Iowa. Might he leave early for a shot at the pros? Maybe, but I would bet he stays put for another year. Some guys just enjoy the college experience more than others and you only get to do it once.

And as far as Jordan goes, I'm pretty sure he told Dolph on the radio the other night that he was 100% coming back next year.

I hope he and Wieskamp both stay because we could be LOADED next year if everyone is healthy.

...do we really, seriously start worrying if LG will be back?

Iowa lost that Foster kid from Oskaloosa in part because Iowa doesn't put as many players in the NBA, according to him. Luka going to the NBA in any capacity, this year or next, would help negate that perception. Especially since Cook is there right now.

He is great and the Hawkeyes would be really really good with him back, but to say he could make a similar jump from Junior to Senior as he did from Sophomore to Junior seems unrealistic, i mean unless he develops a 40 inch vertical by next year. He is great and has such few holes in his game now its hard to imagine him being hugely better next year, not saying he can't improve some minor things, but he is so good now it is hard to see him being a lot better.
The one thing I think he could improve on is getting his free throw % back up, over 75%. The way he draws fouls he could easily add 2-3 points per game without any extra shots.....

Has any true junior or younger left college early planning to play overseas? I could see a graduating redshirt junior doing so if four years of college was “enough” for them

I am just enjoying the ride this year. Think about it this way... nobody expected this Iowa team to compete the way they are, especially with JBo's uncertainty and the loss of Moss and Cook. I am hoping that the Hawks finish the year strong and if some of these guys leave, we know that Fran and his staff have the ability to build around what they have left. They have gotten a lot of experience with this during the season.

With that being said, I don't think there is anything to worry about. It appears that Garza loves being a Hawkeye and the exposure he gets in the B1G will help him prepare for an NBA career after next year. As for his dad, never met him and I only know of what I see on Twitter, but he seems like a good guy who has complete faith in the Iowa staff and loves the Hawkeyes.

He's the male version of Meagan Gustafson. Slow and no hops. Good college player but would ride the pines in the NBA. Europe will be calling in 2 years and not much incentive to head for Milan, next year. He'll be back for his senior year
Blue Collar Guy? Yup...Will get better cause. Did you hear him on P.Harty's podcast? How he worked to Improve areas he was not so good in.Bottom Line; Sharp Blue Collar mentality.Only will improve. Watch and Enjoy.

Yeah that's clearly him.

That's a crazy story.

Very interested to find out what happened between then and now.

Obviously hes resurfaced.

Looks like he did some time over this.

Crazy how it seems most people (myself included) never heard about this until now. I’m sure some media outlet will dig this up more from the grave and make a huge deal about it even though it happened long ago. Then the entire state will know and Luka won’t feel comfortable in Iowa City so he opts to go to Europe now. He would have come back for his senior year but Legend leads a protest to ban the Garza’s from Iowa :( Thanks a lot Legend! ;)

Marc gasol, or jonas valenciunas

Yea except Marc Gasol won a Defensive Player of the Year in the NBA.

Garza is a solid defender now (but he used to be terrible his freshman year). I'm just not sure if he can realistically match up with Joel Embiid, Karl Anthony-Towns, Andre Drummond, Kristops Porzingis, or god forbid a PF like Anthony Davis.
