Just thinking in terms of what Speraw was a specialist at. Not teaching it but fixing flaws when a player's shot is off.
Just thinking that if Gatens already has been hired as some are claiming that Lansing might not offer the geographic diversity that could benefit the staff more.
I would think 12 years of coaching in Indiana would help recruiting there.
My wild guess is that Gatens has already been hired per poster reports on here.....and I think he will be a good assistance coach. That said, Lansing has to have some good ties in Indiana after having been there for that many years....that couldn't hurt.
His recruiting is all over the place. Not sure he would add as much as a good assistant might, plus he's going to want to move on at some point, sooner than later. I trust McC to make the right choice and if that's Lansing, so be it.

I'm not very religious, or really at all, but I think Jesus Christ would say something more like Ephesians 4:32: "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."
There's a lot of symbolism in screen names. One word in yours speaks volumes about its author. Ephesians 4:32, think about it.

Lansing shouldn't be damned for Alford. He kind of kept the ship together, limiting transfers, monitoring eligibility kind of things the Head Coach should do. Are we down to just one open coaching position?
I don't disagree, I saw where the job recruiting sites had a lot of people interested in the position. Some posters have said, Gatens is the guy. I think Matt would be good, just hope Fran takes his time and Vets all applicants to develop a short list to interview.
Lansing was honored as the Defensive Player of the Year in his college conference when at South Dakota. Might be just what the doctor ordered.

Doesn't everybody?!? Not quite mandatory yet, but some states are working on it., including Iowa.
I like the hire. Fran probably knew which way he would go but wanted to go through the hiring process. Can not fault him for taking his time. Iowa kid, who loves the black and gold. I also think he will be a tireless worker, knows what Fran expects. Welcome home MG.
