B1G Tournament - Iowa vs Minnesota @ 1pm on Thursday

It sounds like Minnesota had Michigan beat outside of a three run home run. Hopefully the Hawks can match the Gophers' intensity beginning with the first pitch.

Iowa beats Minnesota 2-1 to stay alive! Iowa will face the loser of Michigan/Indiana @ 7:30pm on Friday Night!

Outstanding pitching by Blake Hickman, Jared Mandel, and Tyler Radtke.

Hickman is the real deal if he can find control and go longer. In that first inning his first four pitches were 94, 81, 95, 95. Even heard other people commenting how "the Iowa guy is in the mid 90's".

I was very impressed with Hickman. What is his story? They indicated that he had just become a pitcher this year?
He has an mlb starter type of body...big guy, and saw him hit 95 a few times....easy heat.

Clearly, he is just learning to become a starter, but if he is young, he could end up in the pros in a few years.

Leadoff man for the Hawks is good, tough, scrapper type who knows how to lead off.
Clutch two out hits win the game for the Hawks.
Very well played battle on both sides....nice win for the Hawks.
Now...Michigan...c'mon Hawks....keep the dream alive!
Beating Michigan would make it a successful tourney for the Hawks....then beating the Huskers twice would make it a successful season, and then beating IU...well...that is the dream....

Hickman had never really pitched until last summer in the Northwoods League. As you saw, he has top-caliber stuff and will be a very high draft pick next year after a summer in the Cape Cod. If he can develop a change up and figure out endurance he will be the staff ace next season.

Hickman is a guy who has all the tools to be an MLB pitcher. As has already been said he needs to better develop a change-up. Coach Heller made the comment in the postgame about how Blake continues to grow and how he actually threw his change-up for a strike yesterday.

When Hickman came out and was throwing 94, 95, 95...he had people talking. If he continues to grow he will not only be Iowa's ace, he will be one of those guys IMO that will be damn near unhittable and what a story would it be for him to be at Iowa.
