Baer reminds me of

The Bettendorf Bulldog Baer is writing his own legend.
After he graduates from the University of Iowa there will
plenty of time to assess his success on the basketball
court. Until then, enjoy one of the biggest surprises in
Hawkeye history.

I didn't see Drake game. Based on MSU game, it is hard to peg Baer to more recent successful players. So many guys his size just stay at 3pt line and want to shoot 3pt'ers and can't mix it up inside or defend. Baer looks a little bit unique in what he brings to Iowa.

Maybe a little bit of Sam Dekker....able to shoot 3pt shot and also occasionally surprise you with dribble drive score in post, but Baer is not as tall and not as athletic.
However, he plays harder on defense than Dekker did.

Maybe a little of Gasser...glue guy, and just beats you with big shot and doing what it takes to win.

Baer plays harder than even McCabe did, and with aggression like McCabe, but smarter and doesn't pick up the unnecessary fouls. Baer can actually move and defend. Fran loved him some McCabe...he ought to really, really love Baer.

If Baer can really shoot the 3pt shot like he's shown, post shorter players, play this type of defense...wow. What a gem.

Bowen? Maybe, if he can add about twenty pounds. Laettn

Bowen? Maybe, if he can add about twenty pounds. Laettner? Not likely. Bird? Please.

The person who suggested Baer was the next Larry Bird or Christian Laettner was being facetious.

Oh. Now I feel like a dumb ass.

I wouldn't feel dumb. I could be wrong. Hawk fans can be that extreme (sincerely) in real life. I'm giving the guy the benefit of the doubt and hoping that it's a matter of the internet still lacking a sarcasm font.

Michael Jordan, but with a little less overall talent, explosiveness, leaping ability, and golf game. Still fun to watch though.

In another thread I said Vidnovick but I forgot 90% of the people on here wouldn't be able to compare. There is some Boyle in him, but he's not as good a defender as Kevin was.

Who made the Shurna comparison? While not perfect, it's my favorite. He has some Whitey in him to.

I did have to explain to someone a few years ago why Aaron White was nothing like Larry Bird, this person was legitimately making that comparison.

I'll take Baer as defender over Boyle..Baer is coming up with uncanny blocked shots, rebounds, steals. I'll also take Baer on offense....Boyle had a baseline jumper and hit good percentage as Freshman and than got worse every year after that on offense.

I think he provides the garbage/lunch pail/scrap type plays White provided.

With a better outside shot. Just isn't as strong (yet).

Baer still makes freshman mistakes, particularly when dribbling the ball. There's no doubt that he is uncanny in terms of finding the open spot on the floor and getting there. Him taking the Purdue defender off the dribble and hitting the fadeaway J was a thing of beauty. This guy is the real deal.

Not sure who he reminds me of. But, he is one really good player that the Iowa team needs at this point in time. Love him.

Boyle was a guard. Baer's a forward. Don't know if Baer will be a good an on the the ball defender as Boyle but his offense is much better and his D has that uncanny element to it.

Kevin Boyle was one of the best defenders in the country back in his day. If Baer approaches Kevin Boyle, that would be great for Iowa. Also, Boyle shot the lowest % from the field as a frosh (see link below). His scoring average did decline each year.

I think what most people are trying to describe is that he just seems like he should have played during the Tom Davis era.

It's that frantic effort to out hustle your opponent, combined with solid fundamentals and smart play that's so reminiscent of Bowen, Street and Settles.

You must be old to remember all that about Boyle

Krafcisin , Waite, Brookins, Boyle, Lester
That's your starting 5 on the final 4 team.
Arnold, Gannon, Hansen came off the bench.

Actually, Boyle is introduced as a forward for the game vs Louisville at the 5:20 mark. Brookins also a forward, Krafcisin at center, Arnold and Lester at guard. Waite came off the bench at this point.

Google lists Boyle as forward. 3-spot, same position as Baer.

The Kenny Arnold was the 2G, Lester PG, Hansen was 2G off bench

He plays with the intensity of McCabe but much more athletic. He is very slippery and hawkish to the ball. Uthoff said they played with nuts tonight, Baer is the whole sack.
