God it’s fun watching a coach that believes in his offense and is willing to press a bit. Ferentz would have punted right there for sure. Difference between winners and losers.

Side question - what record would a coach like Dan Campbell have had at Iowa (with the Defenses we typically have) compared to Ferentz? I take the over..

well to be fair the typical Iowa defense and Punter is better than the Lions Defense and Punter most Years

JC Darnold stop throwing it to F ing Hockinson … dude can’t even run 20% chance he can catch it

Nuts… u don’t have em’. It’s ok. You’re a Ferentz apologist and that’s fine.

Sorry though - u will never be able to convince me Ferentz’s uber conservative way of football (i.e., punting on our own side of the field, not continuing to press on offense once we have any sort of lead) will ever be enough to win a game against a top 10 team again. We’ll be fortunate to ever win against a top 25 team.

Our negative fans: Our Offense is horrible.

We should go for it more on 4th downs.

With that Offense you just called horrible?
I don’t believe people are necessarily placing the blame solely on the offense in general being horrible. Our play calling for years has been less than optimal, particularly in short yardage situations.

Then why did it previously work vs top 10 teams?

You will never be able to convince me that you know much about football.

Ferentz doesn't need any apologists. More than a respectable career, that speaks for itself.

But no, I pretty much am not on board with any of the narratives that the 7th grade girls' club echo together in the bathroom

We need to give the forward pass a try first.

Like nearly every other college team in America.

They would probably be better if Dan Campbell were their coach.

That said, his aggressiveness probably cost them a trip to the Super Bowl last year.
This is a fair statement.

True regarding his aggressiveness costing them at times as well - at the end of the day if you choose to live by the sword you may die by the sword as well. I just don’t see how in today’s football world (particularly college with today’s NIL) how Ferentz led Iowa is ever going to beat the Ohio States and Oregon’s of the world without pressing more - or ever. Running out the clocking before half (and not even considering trying to get a field goal), punting always versus ever pressing on 4th down, choosing to never pass deep for fear of a pic is simply not going to get it done anymore.

What are you saying, did you misplace your balls ?

Ladies and gentlemen the biggest KF a$$ kisser of all time. His approach worked 20 years ago, you may have noticed the game is evolving? KF is stuck in neutral when it comes to making meaningful changes

C’mon man - that’s a horrible argument. When’s the last time Ferentz beat a top 10 team? And even if the stars aligned and he was able to pull that off again - do you think he would be able to do it 2-3 times in a row? No. For example, in the past, when we pulled it off, we would typically get beat by an unranked team (i.e., Purdue) the following week.

The point is - in today’s football world, with NIL and the 12 team playoff, you don’t have to just beat a stacked (and paid for) Top 10 team, you have to do it multiple times in a row, and Ferentz’s type of ball just doesn’t allow for that to happen. Too thin of margin and simply too many things have to align for it to work. A simple turnover and Ferentz’s ship is sunk.

A wealthy one, tho

That last 4th and 2 at the vikings 5 yard line Coach Campbell was not going to snap it, he knew or his coaches would tell him to try to draw them offsides, which they did, but not snap it and go for it. An 18 pt lead with the FG at that point looked awful good

Actually, quite underpaid in his industry
Now see that's stretching the truth to extend an argument.

Anyone that's actually paid attention to Iowa football since 1999 and isn't operating on second-hand or revisionist history, knows what Ferentz has made and how it has compared through the years to his counterparts.

Don't veer off up that hill while you battle with the anti-Ferentz crowd.

I'm sorry, what was your argument?..............

Because it didn't start out as a "I don't want Ferentz coaching at Iowa anymore" argument, because we've already, unoriginally, had plenty of those over the past 19 seasons.

No, if I recall, you were trying to argue something much f***ing dumber.

Now, have we moved on and turned this into just another Fire Ferentz thread?....................Yeaaahhhh, I think we have. :)

P.S. don't change the subject, either, and assume whether or not I want Ferentz gone sooner than later in your next reply. Hope that helps! :D

Rich was specifically talking about our holy Kirk Ferentz. KF tried so damn hard to get his win record without having to change a goddamn thing.

The fact that he'd still have his son coaching the offense into the ground if not for BG.... "I'm not sure if you know this but we won 10 games last year" LMFAO I feel like Kirk has morphed into a 'fossil' of a coach that simply refuses to leave the sideline.

BG may wish she'd never taken the job. She's in a tough spot. Two major programs going soft...coaches that need to retire but have winning records. What do you do? She's screwed.
Nah. She simply needs to play the BOSS role i.e. have closed-door meetings with both HC's and tell them the athletic department is ready to move forward with other leaders.

"We all thank you for your contributions to this University and this City, but..." yada yada.. Tough but necessary.

Very tough. Both of them say "I've got a contract. I'm not going anywhere yet". Now you've got friction between the AD and your two biggest HCs.
