I have been getting a ton of questions and comments, about Iowas upcoming recruiting classes. It is not hard to feel the excitement coming, from even the most causal fans. That is the one thing that sticks out to me its the casual sports fans, saying tell me about Spencer, or Gavin, ext...I think one of the main reasons for this is Flo Wrestling. Flo has made stars out of these guys. This is going to a huge thing for collage wrestling in the near future. Last time Iowa signed number one guys ,that I remember, were Mocco and Mark Perry. I am a very big wrestling fan and follow it pretty close. Before those guys wrestled a match at Iowa I had seen them wrestle a grand total of one time... combined. Even as flo was developing, I think I may have seen two or three Brent Metcalf high School matches. Compare that to today, I could name all the best high school wrestlers in the nation. I have seen them all wrestle numerous times. But more importantly, it is the back story's, are what make interest peak. Think what Carver will look like in a few years with possible Spencer Lee vs Surino, Hall vs Marinelli
, ext, ext. Ticket sales at all schools will grow immensely. These kids graduating for the next 2 or three years will be the first classes that we have been watching grow up, through national tournaments and world team trials (rather it be cadets or juniors). Im not sure, but I think CP said this year at beat the streets, the lines for autographs were just as long for guys like Fix, and Hall as they were for Jordan Burroughs. Think about that for a second. The excitement level for these kids to get to campus, seems way different, and much more broad then anytime I can remember since I have been following the sport. Yes Spencer Lee was going to create a big buzz with or without Flo. But Flos promotion of him since he was basically in 8th grade, sure didn't hurt, and not only makes him and his story more integrating, but also his future collage opponents.. This will create interest that has been developing before high school, so by the time they arrive on campus they (and their opponents) are well known from day one. Its one thing to have the hardcore fans, like people that post on these boards locked in, but once the casual sports fan can recognize the Gavin Teasdales, and Alex Thomsens of the world, watch out, big things gonna happen!
I had a conversation with Lewboo (aka the the Great One) the other day, and he told me that when he was being recruited to Iowa, Gable had seen him wrestle a grand total of 0 times (well I guess that worked out ok). But also think of the resources it saves the coaches. If a coach wants to take a look at a possible recruit, they no longer have to jump on a plane, simply type his name in and you have all his matches at your fingertips. Not only can they evaluate the kid, but evaluate him vs the best competition. I also think this will be a great thing. With all the info they have on these kids, there will be a far less chance of "busts". It is good for the sport when the superstars preform.
I predict, not only at Iowa, but all schools will see season ticket sales rise exponentially in the next few years as a result of this. I just hope the officials, continue to make them wrestle, and we will have the best product ncaa wrestling has ever had.
Throughout, the last few years I have been as hard on Flo as anyone, not really for quality content, no argument there, the best in the game x10. Sometimes I disagree with, how they portray things, and weekly I argue on twitter with cp on his rankings ( haven't seen his preseason rankings yet, but Brooks is to low! and McCutcheon way to high!). Not sure but some people, including myself, can be a little thin skinned, and take everything they say personally. It must make it quite difficult, to breakdown matches or duel meets, knowing that someone is going to be pissed, and call you bias, no matter which way you go. Before Flo,intermat was the place to go for wrestling content and discussion. I really cant remember the last time i visited that site. Ohh ya, I do... Foley's mailbag sometimes, but lately, I have been skipping that, because I like my new hobby of chewing on tinfoil, more enjoyable. It may be time to give Flo and Martin, their due, cause they very well may accomplish the goals, they envisioned from the very beginning, so congratulations to Martin and his team. I know they have been at it for ten plus years, but in the last five they have come a long way. Get your season tickets ordered soon, and keep renewing cause good seats will not be available for long!

I agree with this. It is a lot like the effect that rivals had on football recruiting about 15 years ago. Recruits became celebrities before stepping foot on campus. Hopefully it provides a big boost to wrestling's popularity.

Me too. Between Flo and YouTube, you can see a LOT of upcoming wrestlers. It is pretty exciting, the success we're having recruiting these young studs.

1.I agree 100% following young wrestlers on FLO makes the college season much more interesting. Much like the recruiting mania does for football.
2.Increased attendance is yet to be seen. Hall and Lee will not increase attendance for Penn State and Iowa, it can't. And Iowa and Penn State as a visiting team does not seem to help away attendance. That is still a hope as the depth of talent may spread out. But that will take a while, we'll see.
But "grow immensely" is a long shot, unless, of course, they really start up "duel meets".

When Flo starts offering schollys or free account contests, that is the only thing + 20$ bill money every month for a lot of folks. Give back and grow proper flo. Schollys tourneys, free stuff program flo needs a re-program for guys like me.
Peace again jmo

This is contrary to evidence. Maybe they don't draw extra at B10 schools (Maryland and Rutgers excepted), but there's clear star power at nonconference matches. Penn State was the highest attendance in years for CSUB, Utah Valley, Boston U, Rider, and a few other schools. Iowa was by far the biggest crowd at Bucknell last time they were in Lewisburg; surely Iowa has the same effect elsewhere.

Fair point, the annual charity matches are the exception.
The other side would be Northwestern: Iowa + Penn State attendance = 2500 last year.

The crowds are ALWAYS bigger when Iowa is present (some for, some against). Been that way for a good 35 years. They've wrestled in High School gyms in the middle of nowhere and drew more than most will at their on campus arena. Gable built it. They came.

They provide a service that many people enjoy and are wiling to pay for. Why do they have to give things away? I don't know how old you are, but I am from a generation and raised in such a way that I don't expect things to be given to me and I would never tell a company that they need to start giving things away.

So should I take that as a No vote for Bernie? ;)

What was the attendance at their other duals? Perhaps jNW is an exception but I believe your point to be incorrect--schools commonly get a bump when Iowa comes to town.

Ha...poors. Even if I watch two big events a year, not including all the great documentaries, it's well worth it.

I'm from that generation, but for reasons that I can't explain I still balk when I see an App that costs $1.99. It's weird how quickly we get conditioned.

Same for me. Break it up
I think giving an example is good. I won't correct the spelling of college or etc. that would be counter productive for the most part, plus I don't know how to spell either.;) Great post silicone.

I worry about wrestling due to the questions regarding footballs future. We need to continue being proactive for wrestling because football may not always be the cash cow. While we are at it lets separate womens and mens athletic departments. Sorry fortunata but the free loading needs to end.

That would be a waste of resources. The administrative costs are through the roof to run two athletic departments. That's why no one does it anymore.

NW is probably the worst. And there is a bump for Iowa and Penn State, a microscopic one. But OPs contention of "all schools will see season ticket sales rise exponentially" is beyond silly. Illinois's write up of Penn State (#8 vs #1 btw) bragged of a season high 1407 attendees. So a season high bump from #1 gets you to less than half a women's basketball game? (PSU vs Ill women's basketball attendance: 3776). That's strong enough evidence that Iowa and Penn State can't save the day alone.
Wrestling is in real trouble. I'd love to see it happen but an exponential attendance increase is not in the cards.

Do not disagree with any of this. Just do not believe your comment about no bump from Iowa to be true. And still don't.

Giving back to the community is worthy of talking about. Isnt it? Rough crowd.
Wrestling is not expensive enough? 1 tourney can be your flo account for the year.
How many people signed up for Dan Dennis?
Doubtfully Dan got any money for this. i guess huh Dietz. gimme a faking break you pud.

I'm talking about all football revenue staying in the mens athletic department. I already know that will never happen.

It's sad that this country has over 300 million people, and these are the best candidates we can come up with.

That...and the most innovative. I cannot vote for Hillary...crooked as a snake. If the woman could tell the truth or lie to get the same result, she would prefer to lie. Trump is well...Trump. I have enjoyed how he has trolled establishment Republicans, Democrats, and the media. It's like the more mud they sling at him, the more voters he attracts voters. It takes more to be president than that though.
One can't just tell China or Russia:
"I've got a bunch of good bombs, my bombs are the best bombs, you don't even want to know how these bombs explode they are so good."
But than the other one would be saying,
"Under my presidency, our relationship with China has never been better because I wear $12,000 Mao jackets from Armani. I seriously get their culture because as SECSTATE, I traveled the most miles."
Simultaneously, China is invading Taiwan. "But what about the invasion of Taiwan Madam President?"
"That's a vast right wing conspiracy reporting from Fox News. Don't believe what you see on TV. China is our ally and friend. In fact, they donated a nice amount to my "charity"...The Clinton Foundation."

At least I offended both sides. Anyways, back to wrestling.

Chief, I think the fact that nearly everyone could read those statements in the candidates voices and would not be surprised to hear it come out of their mouths says a lot about this election in general. Lol.
