Kueter Rise?

ben to the haters tonight

When I saw that reversal I thought that was really weird the way it played out. I was like wth Ben? You just summed it up, that was a freestyle error. Now it makes sense.
Good catch.
A reversal needs to be worth 3 like a takedown. Right now it is no different than an escape. 4-2 is no different than 3-1 and a reversal is harder to get than an escape. Needs to change imo.

But if he gets the takedown, reversed, then escapes, I will take that exchange all day long, it's +2 on the scoreboard. Now let's get Ross or Mocco in here to train with him and be an heir apparent or give him an Olympic year to extend the success

I thought that last year, but in freestyle it's 2 and 1, TD to Reversal, so being 3 to 2 shouldn't be a big deal when you factor in you are now riding and could potentially get a point that way or at least take away their point if they'd ridden themselves (which is a de facto point by not giving it up). I've come around to keeping it at 2, but I'm sure they'll keep tinkering things if enough coaches have issues but I haven't heard any of them complain openly.

Agreed. If gaining advantage from neutral is worth 3, doing it from a disadvantaged position should be worth at least as much. I think it could make mat wrestling a lot more interesting in folkstyle.

Edit to add: step out rule please!

My opinion of BK’s realistic career
RsFR(this year) 6th-rd12
Sophomore 3rd-5th
Junior Title Contender 1st-4th
Senior Title Contender 1st-4th
I think he gets a title before it’s all said and done maybe 2.
There's no way he'll ever win a national title. With Gable S. coming back for three more years it will be impossible for him to win. Apparently you can wrestle as many years as you want. Go pro a few years and then come back as a free agent....

a TD needs to be more than a reversal.

and a reversal IS more than an escape. saying they are equal ignores what should be obvious - you allowed/gave up and escape.

they are not equal.

4-2 is no different they 3-1? How did they score the 4? New maths isn’t my thing, apparently.

I don't agree mainly because Ben gave up the reversal by being aggressive for the cradle. Giving it 3 points likely leads to more cautious riding.

What I'm saying is if BK gets a takedown and gives up an escape it is 3-1. If he gets a takedown, gives up a reversal, then escapes, it is 4-2. What I'm getting at is that by Feldman getting a reversal and then giving up an escape he was no farther ahead than if he just escaped with no reversal. I guess I can see the side of it that if you don't give up the escape it is worth more in the final score. A takedown should be worth more than a reversal as well so I don't know how you could change the value in hindsight for reversals.

Speaking of Kerkvliet - he was also undersized initially as a HWT. Cassioppi majored Kerkvliet initially. The next year matches got closer, and eventually Kerkvliet grew into the HWT class and became the dominant HWT he is now. Keuter is only a freshman and needs to grow into the HWT class.
With 8 of the top 10 graduating, he’s going to grow into HWT by attrition alone.

Getting a reversal allowed Feldman to gain a RT advantage, that he wouldn't have gotten had he simply escaped. RT ended up not making a difference in the match, but that's one of the benefits to getting a reversal instead of just an escape

Why in the heck would a reversal have the same value as a takedown? The way it is now is perfect.

This is kind of how I see it. You only get a reversal if the other guy already took you down. If you wanted the 3 points you should get the takedown yourself. Reversing still gives you a chance to be on top for riding time or near fall/pins. That's the advantage of a reversal over the escape.

Re: point value of a reversal...why shouldn't it be worth the same as a takedown? The end result is the same: you're incontrol of your opponent who's down on the mat. You could even argue it's more difficult to execute than a takedown cuz you're starting at a significant disadvantage vs. neutral (no net advantage)

Yes it was sarcasm. But I truly don’t understand how he can go pro to WWW and make big money and then come back to college. Can a basketball or football player do this?
Well, not if they're going pro in their sport. If a college football player goes to the NFL he can't come back and play in college.

I assume it's different for wrestling since he went to the WWE and tried pro football, but that that isn't the same as college football to NFL type of delio.

Right. MMA, boxing (remember Tom Zbikowski from Notre Dame having a debut boxing match at Madison Square Garden while still in school) and pro wrestling wouldn't affect your eligibility. Obviously a ton of minor league baseball players played both while in college (Danan Hughes and Bo Porter from Iowa football in the early 90s) or before going back like Chris Weinke and Drew Henson, but not the same sport. And now rugby guys from Australia, some having played pro, have taken over college punting. I'd think you COULD actually play in the NFL or pro football and still come back and wrestle in college if the timing worked out.

Tks. Still doesn’t seem right. He tried pro wrestling and didn’t succeed?? Why if a kid tries football and doesn’t make a team then he should be able to return to college.

Because he still had eligibility. He was able to use an Olympic RS for last year even though he didn't compete at the Olympic Trials. My opinion you shouldn't be able to use an Olympic RS unless you attempt to make the team.

Good Lord. Every time I think this board can’t get any dumber it totally redeems itself.

This will come as a shock to you: the WWE isn’t the pro ranks for college wrestling. It’s also all staged.

Dwight was a guy who transcended the white athlete stereotypes. Just one fast, bad ass mofo.

Old guy take:
Deny the imbedded escape in every reversal all you want. It’s still there.
Points from a TD are awarded for taking control from neutral. Taking control while “being controlled” is at least as hard, likely harder (Pop quiz: would gaining control of Spencer or Zain be easier from neutral or from under them?)
If an escape + TD is worth 4 points, a “reversal/imbedded escape” is undeniably worth 3.
Take the last word. Old guy out.
