Kueter Rise?

Speaking of Kerkvliet - he was also undersized initially as a HWT. Cassioppi majored Kerkvliet initially. The next year matches got closer, and eventually Kerkvliet grew into the HWT class and became the dominant HWT he is now. Keuter is only a freshman and needs to grow into the HWT class.
Fat Tony man handled Kerk - skinny Tony got the beat downs.

Was it being undersized or not being healthy and young??
Kerk is 240's right now not far from where Ben is size wise.
Ben just needs more time. Even if he stays the size hes going to get better.

This is a big point that gives me hope for Ben's next 3 years. Young Kerk reminded me a lot of Ben right now. Didn't have the horsepower to finish on the big guys, and hadn't grown into his hwt body yet. If Ben can get up to a healthy 250ish and figure out how to be able to push a higher pace, he'll be just fine. The core skill set is absolutely there, just needs to take that next step.

Their situations are similar but also different.
Kerk was sick and basically came in at the 11th hour to compete... Its similar to last season for Ben..
This season for Ben he's figuring it out, he will thrash dudes out of the top 20. Kerks 1st full season had some similarities..
Time will tell.

Imagine thinking he recently weighed in at 250. Maybe open one of the 50 posts where someone mentions what he weighed in at.

Give him time. Didn't he just get 2nd in U20 Worlds, and physically matched a top 10 guy in the world? These folk style guys are allowed to do nothing. If they are allowed just to defend, it's hard for the smaller guy to get a takedown without a scramble--and some scrambles you are going to lose. And...if refs allow no activity until the end, there will be just one scramble.

Massoumi had a cast cut off a broken, not healed hand and still handled everyone at the world champs, despite being off the mat for several weeks before that.

Unsolicited opinion: to beat the bigger, less athletic heavyweights he needs to get in more wrestling positions. More scrambles, exchanges. Take more shots. More chances to make something happen.

Posters haven't been doing this regarding Ben. 99% of those who've been critical of his performances are huge fans who'd love nothing more than to see him succeed. This is a fan message board, where people come to discuss their observations, opinions and occasionally vent. It's not intended to be a way to communicate directly to athletes or parents. If parents don't like the things they see on here, by all means they're welcome to express that... but they shouldn't expect message board posters to stop doing what they do.
I understand that. By all means observe, have an opinion, vent. It's the mean, inaccurate, and unnecessary crap that bothers me. Post away...

I certainly believe you when you say it is OK for people to vent but as a parent, I would not be anyway near a message board. Especially after an emotional meet. Unfortunately, trolls from other wrestling fan bases read these comments and are more than capable (heck - willing and able) of making up stories and firing off half truths to rile people up. Especially against those who have far more of a vested interest in certain athletes.

I don't think people are trying to be mean, but as a parent any criticism will come across that way. I have a son who is a college athlete, fortunately in a sport that doesn't get much message board activity... but I know criticism of his performances would sting for me to read. I apologize for that but it definitely hasn't been the intent. Again we're not posting "to" the athletes or parents. Most of us treat it like we're sitting in a bar with other fans talking sports over a couple beers.

I tend to agree with this - but there is a segment that even as good Hawkeye fans, they are wound just a bit too tight.

I was thinking about Banach as a similar body type for Keuter to emulate. A little more in the legs, able to hoist Baumgartner. But the similarity is size and athleticism. If Keuter can develop that pace, look out. He knows it, but he still needs to do it.
If Ben gets shorter and loses 20#, he could be like Lou!

Curious why so many talk about how he will progress over the next several years.

Do you really think he will wrestle for several more years rather than concentrate on football?

Ahhh! But as Nazareth said - now you're messin' with a SOB, I don't think gender was implied or mattered. Pronouns were not necessary. ;)
Dang all these years I thought it was
“don’t go messing with son of a bitch”.
Then today I looked up the lyrics.

Glad I can be an educator. Loved listening to that song before HS football games. Would be a great walk out song for someone.

I know this and yet here I am. 🙈. It’s SO tough when you see the other side of it. The eating, the lifting, training, the mental side of this sport is brutal, getting good grades, taking care of your body, etc. it’s often lonely and you have to make good choices. I ALWAYS tell my boys “pressure is a privilege but unfortunately it comes with alot of outside noise”. I asked Ben yesterday of he was still having fun and he said, “I hate losing”. This was during his second dinner 🤣.

At any rate, I appreciate all of the support he gets and don’t mind at all, the comments about “let’s get on our offense” or “or the weight comments” or “move your feet” “create angles” things like that. I know what he is capable of, it seems at each new milestone we have to find our way. Even me apparently 🤣🤣🤣

It’s like the Godfather movie , “Just when I thought I was out, they keep pulling me back in” 🤣.

I’m a fighter so it’s tough for me stay off but I will try and work on it.

I have to go, meeting him at 11:30 church.
My friend, I love seeing you on here! Some of us on here always want things now. We want BK to win every match this year and we would really appreciate it if he could take care of Gable Steveson or Kerk for the championship. We're like the spoiled little shit on the old Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie (little miss "I want it now"). 😂 We mean well, we know BK's a hammer, and we love the man, but we're a bit impatient at times. And then there are others on here who are just plain dicks. I'd like to say you just need to ignore the dicks, but in all actuality I kind of like it when you give them a piece of your mind. 😂 Thanks for hopping on here occasionally and providing us some really insider input!! 🖤

This is awesome. Dang it, I want him to win every match to! Wouldn't it be something if he could take care of those dudes?! Ugh! Let's go out and just fight! The tools are all there! Let's go Hawks!

My opinion of BK’s realistic career
RsFR(this year) 6th-rd12
Sophomore 3rd-5th
Junior Title Contender 1st-4th
Senior Title Contender 1st-4th
I think he gets a title before it’s all said and done maybe 2.
I wouldn't be shocked if he's not in the title hunt next year. He has a few things to work on, I think much of its between the ears too. He's giving too much respect to these guys.
Another year of man strength, technique and confidence, I think he can go with anyone next year. As has been mentioned, this weight almost completely clears out in 2026.

Is this projections for a full time wrestling BK or part time fball too? I hope he doesn’t go back and works 24/7 on wrestling otherwise its hard to see him being at the top.

Hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see him anywhere near a top five guy. He’s just got a long way to go.
How do you feel now? He will keep climbing as his lungs develop. He made a knucklehead move today that seemed freestylish giving up the reversal. He seems to keep on his knees on top vs keeping his weight on his opponent. Easy fix. On his feet, I sure hope he starts to identify his opponents mistakes. He’s missing some great shots. When his shot confidence develops, sky’s the limit. He does well on bottom overall, however I need to see a few more matches. Go Hawks!!

When I saw that reversal I thought that was really weird the way it played out. I was like wth Ben? You just summed it up, that was a freestyle error. Now it makes sense.
Good catch.
