Been watching the Hawks for 37 years.

This was the most unique game I've ever seen. Buttwhooping, #3, 55 pts, and Ohio State have never been in the same sentence before without them being the perpetrator.

Yup. Even the 2004 game against Ohio State didn't become a blowout until the second half. I didn't have any doubt Iowa would be in the game the whole after Iowa's first offensive series when they marched down the field and got a field goal. The players looked sharp, intense, and confident the whole game. Even in 2004 it sort of like Drew Tate won that game. Plus, that was a 3-2 Ohio State team at that time. This Ohio State team was being crowned as the only opponent (besides Georgia) who could possibly hang with Alabama. Off the charts for best win I've ever seen by the Hawks and I started following them them when I was young, around 1980. The Texas bowl game in '84 was a similar total beatdown, but Texas was only ranked 19th that year. This is ... there's no comparison as far as I can tell. Never seen Iowa plaster any team with as much talent as OSU so thoroughly from start to finish.

The one thing I would add to the 1984 Freedom defeat of Texas 55-17 was that shortly afterwards Chuck Long announced he was coming back in 1985 and the college football world took notice and we found ourselves #1 when Michigan came to town that fall. If the Hawks don't lay an egg Saturday against the Badgers I'm betting that the Hawks don't go unranked in the pre-season polls next summer.

I've watched the Hawks for about 37 years as well ... I would say (for me) this was the top game from start to finish ...The last second wins against PSU, Michigan (x2), LSU were all incredible ... but from a pure "holy sh&t I'm loving this experience," the Ohio State game is hard to beat.

This might be the beginning of the end of the Urban Meyer era at tOSU... Unless he can win another National Title in 2018 or 2019, he will get stuck with the "can build it, can't maintain it" label and will likely retire again.

Been debating today which was the bigger win, OSU or Mich last year. Neither had any realistic expectation of winning. Michigan was the euphoria of a last second win. OSU was a unbelievable party that was on for most of the game. The manner in which the Hawks kicked OSU's ass puts it over the top for me, but ultimately it doesn't matter - both were amazing!
I think, just the fact that we brought them to their knees,(OSU). How often does ANYONE, give them that kind of beating? If it hadn't been for our fake punt snafu, I'm not sure they score in the second half.

There has been many dramatic games over the years. This is the biggest ass whipping of a top ranked team that I can remember. Nothing comes close.

Well, let's look at wins (and a tie) versus ranked teams since the Hayden Fry era at Iowa...

1981: Iowa 21, #6 UCLA 7
1981: #12 Iowa 9, #5 Michigan 7
1983: #7 Iowa 20, #3 Ohio State 14
1984: Iowa 40, #14 Purdue 3
1984: Iowa 55, #19 Texas 17

1991: #15 Iowa 24, #13 Illinois 21
1991: #11 Iowa 16, #13 Ohio State 9
1995: Iowa 38, #20 Washington 18 (Sun Bowl)
1996: Iowa 21, #10 Penn State 20

2004: #17 Iowa 30, #9 Wisconsin 7
2004: #11 Iowa 30, #12 LSU 25 (Citrus Bowl)
2005: Iowa 20, #19 Wisconsin 10
2007: Iowa 10, #19 Illinois 6
2008: Iowa 24, #3 Penn State 23
2009: Iowa 21, #5 Penn State 10
2009: #10 Iowa 24, #9 Georgia Tech 14 (Orange Bowl)
2010: #17 Iowa 24, #22 Penn State 3
2010: #18 Iowa 37, #5 Michigan State 6
2010: Iowa 27, #14 Missouri 24 (Insight Bowl)
2011: Iowa 24, #13 Michigan 16
2015: Iowa 10, #19 Wisconsin 6
2015: #17 Iowa 40, #20 Northwestern 10
2016: Iowa 14, #2 Michigan 13
2016: Iowa 40, #17 Nebraska 10
2017: Iowa 55, #3 Ohio State 24

At least during this time (which is since I went to school there), it would be hard to pick a bigger win than Saturday's in scope of the win and who was beaten. Perhaps the big stomp of #8 Michigan in Ann Arbor 34-9, and that big Freedom Bowl win against Texas comes close, but still don't think that is the scale of upset and the attention they got that this weekend's game received.

Completely agree. If Iowa takes down two top 10 teams in back-to-back weeks then Iowa will be ranked this year and as long as the win out in the regular season and are at least competitive in whatever bowl they get then, yeah, I think they'd definitely be ranked in the top 25 preseason poll. If Stanley continues his progression of looking better and better then there might just be that Chuck Long effect you're talking about. Hell, Stanley looked as good as Chuck Long ever did against OSU. If he can keep it up and play at that level consistently then the B10 is going to be in trouble the next couple of years. Wouldn't that be nice!

I can't think of a game I've enjoyed anymore than this one.
The catch was awesome against LSU, McNutt as time expired VS MSU was awesome.
This was off the charts though and takes the cake imo.
What say you guys?

The first Iowa football game I can remember was the '57 Rose Bowl. I listened to or watched most of Iowa's games since, and never did Iowa perform better IMO. Iowa's win over No. 2 Michigan was great, and the last second win over LSU was remarkable, but Saturday's rout of Ohio State was legendary.

I went to Columbus to watch Chuck Long and the Hawks play Ohio State and this game made up for that loss. I loved the looks on Urban's face in the 2nd half. This game will live forever in Kinnick history.

Maybe it's premature to say it's the most ____ in history but if nothing else it's a very rare sort of win.

I was at the Michigan game in 2002. Loved it. Grew up in Michigan as a Michigan fan. Never before saw an opponent physically dominate Michigan like that in the Big House. And playing a style that Bo would've loved as Michigan football.

This win is something way above that.

Urban Meyer was 26-1 on the road at OSU. Only road loss was last year at Penn State 21-24. (no, that doesn't count bowl games)

Unreal victory.

I'm only 26 but I would consider this the most shocking victory of my lifetime. Not shocking in that Iowa won, but how they did it. Just complete domination in a game no one gave them a shot in hell to win. A near perfect game.

One more reason to put it at the top, Iowa made Ohio State quit. It was so bad you could tell they had basically given up in the 4th quarter. I have never seen, and will likely not see again, Iowa taking the will out of OSU. That 2nd half was just pure joy to watch, I haven't had that much fun watching a game in a long time.

I think the 54-28 win over Illinois in 1990 was pretty close to this one. Illinois was a Top 5 ranked team and Iowa came out and absolutely dominated them right from the beginning. Hopefully, this year Iowa can finish the season strong, unlike that year in which Iowa lost 2 of their 3 remaining games.
I loved that game! Jon FiIloon , one of Iowa WR's told me the team got hyper motivated on the bus to the Stadium when all the Illini fans and students were flippin' them off.

Freedom Bowl felt the most like this one

1985 Michigan best win

2002 Michigan is up there

1981 beating MSU to guarantee the Rose Bowl was the happiest I've ever been -- air marked a new era of Iowa football which, until then, had been abysmal my whole life.
