Ben Kueter is a World Champion (U20 Men's Freestyle)

Pretty stoked to see him dominate on the squared circle and the gridiron.

He's an amazing athlete. Almost wonder if he'll stick with football or concentrate solely on the mat. Would love to see him at LB or DE for the Hawk
Probably going to have a very hard time cutting to 197 in college. He will probably end up being a 225-240 pound heavy which may be a very good thing.

Essentially everybody projects him as a heavyweight in college. So I don't think that there is any worry about him having to cut down to 197.

I think that the bigger "controversy" as it relates to football is this ... with him projecting as a heavyweight in wrestling ... will he remain a LB? ... or will he end up a DE? Given the quickness and understanding of leverage ... I'd surmise that he could end up developing into a wicked-good DT too. I have no idea.

He will need to be atleast 235 in order to take on the bigger heavyweights and handle all that pressure from the weight. I bet he ends up in the 240-245 range

Probably depends on what he loves most. At his high level, he can find the money in either sport, obviously football has more money.
From a 2 sport perspective, he may be a generational talent. Kid is amazing.

I think it is safe to say that he may start his college career as a two sport athlete, but will most likely have to focus on one by the time he uses up his eligibility. I mean, how much wrestling will he have missed if he doesn't start until after a bowl game? And how long would his body need to recover from a long football season?

Yep...he likely isn't in full wrestling mode until the end of January.

I agree that 240 lbs seems ideal to do both sports.

I don't think it's as much about his body needing to recover from football as he transitions to wrestling. It has more to do with how much more he has to do to get to wrestling form.

In so many ways, the work that he does in football can be complementary to what he'd be wanting to do in wrestling. Football can given him continued work with leverage, explosiveness, and strength. Let's say he remains at LB ... then he's going to have to be able to work on getting off blocks with 300+ lb offensive linemen draped on him! That's quite the instance of using hand-play, leverage, and strength to achieve your objective.

Furthermore, in wrestling ... while it is a team sport ... so much of it can center upon the individual athlete. It really doesn't matter how many matches you pile on top of each other ... you just want those to be wins so that you can work toward big-tournament championships.

To that end ... it really doesn't matter if Kueter is starting "late" in the wrestling season ... just as long as he gets where he wants to by the end of the season.

In a separate thread ... another poster put it well in noting that the earning potential in football is another factor that makes it attractive.

It's a different type of stamina isn't it? There isn't thirty to forty seconds between plays and TV timeouts to get rested.

That's true ... but it's also possible for Braithwaite to collaborate with Brands in order to make sure that Kueter is getting pushed to retain his elite stamina.

Seems like playing DE would make good use of his wrestling skills and allow him to put on weight. His hand fighting skills, balance and explosion have to be unparalleled. Not to mention his obvious mental toughness. I imagine he will redshirt his first year of football and start right off the bat as a fresh heavyweight?.

I think that makes sense also. He could add good weight like Van Ness and be a hell of a DE to start with his quickness.
