I realize that we will now have super high expectations this year, which is never good for Iowa, but I think having a gut wrenching loss like this might fuel the team next year to get back to the championship game and win it this time.

A win may have fueled the team to repeat having known and felt what success tasted like

Even if we come back an even better team next year, an undefeated season is not that likely. I feel like this was our chance. I guess maybe with a tougher schedule next year, getting in with a loss is more realistic, but that also makes it more likely we'll have loss(es).

Anyway, remember 2010?

Yeah I have to agree this was our year, end of story.. And that's not a knock on these guys and what they've done but it always takes a little luck and we had plenty of it this year!

The one benefit of this loss for me is that I will no longer have to hear all the TV Talking Heads demeaning, degrading, and disrespecting my football team. It's been absolutely brutal for the last month. We were "pretenders" who didn't belong. We won only because we had a powderpuff schedule. We had no real football stars. Our team is not full of 5-star recruits, so how could we be ranked in the top 5. Blah blah blah. I tried to avoid hearing the talk, but there was no way to get away from it. For this 76-year-old grandma, a proud Iowa alumna, each of those comments was like a dagger through the heart. And they were repeated by all the MSU, scUM, and Notre Dame fans that surround me here in SW Michigan. It has been really difficult. So now, hopefully, they'll go on to demean and disrespect another team. My guess is that it will be MSU.

Sup Lincoln? Nolookpass still talks about u all the time on Halo.

As Tom Arnold pointed out on Twitter, Rocky actually lost the first fight to Apollo Creed but in the process gained everyone's respect. This game sort of did the same for Iowa. That being said, this might have been the most heartbreaking loss of all time for me. We totally had it in our grasp to do something really special and it slipped away. Having back-to-back special seasons is so difficult (just ask Iowa 2010 or Ohio State 2015) so there is zero guarantee we even make it back to Indy next year.
