Best ever!

I figured since everything was working all night, why the hell not? I know it didn't work, but I was all for trying to slip in a few more miracles! Not very often you get to dismantle OSU.

The absolute beat down of Ohio State is one of the best games I've seen Iowa play...ever! I'm 63 and I've been a Hawkeye fan my whole life. Two questions...can anyone remember a better game? And do you think Ferentz called that fake punt late in the game? I think the punter did that on his own.

Against a Top 10 opponent? No. I've never seen Iowa look this good ever against an opponent of Ohio State's caliber. I'm in my mid-30s.

And as shocked as I am about this game I would be even more shocked if Ferentz called that fake punt or said anything to the punter that would have led him to believe he had the option to run it if he thought he could make it.

As for the fake Punt - I think it was an in your face to a guy that lives by running up the score for no reason, I actually loved it!!!!! So - since I was not there it appears to be a pretty good Iowa W = best of all time by score - is a Huge YES!.

Not a long list but yes amazing performance
That is a good OhioSt team
Have terrible pass defense but so what

My dad said the same thing!

I was wondering about that, because when he went over to the sideline, it looked like Ferentz grabbed his jersey. Or maybe it just thought it looked like it.
You could read Kirk's words, what were you thinking?

That tOSU team we beat today might be the best team we've beat since 1985 Michigan, definitely in the conversation, and to win like that is just unbelievable. Schiano has said the tOSU DL is better than he had with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Then there's JT Barrett and the rest of the team is just a bunch of 4 and 5 star athletes.

Also, Ferentz said in post game he didn't call the play nor is that play in the playbook so fill in the blank.

No way the fake punt was anything other than the punter mistakenly deciding he could make it all on his own. There was absolutely no attempt to block for him by the other Hawk players.

He did have quite a bit of space, but forgot he also has punter speed

Glad it didn't matter in the outcome, but it lead to the only points OSU scored in the second half. The second half was one of the best halves of defense I remember Iowa playing. Of course it always helps when you have a team down like that and they abandon the run game and start 'forcing' things a little.

This. Looking back on it i gotta give the punter props tho. Guys got balls as big as church bells to run that play there in that situation. Its almost genius if you think about it. Rugby style kickers always run with the ball for awile before kicking it, so you already have a head of steam going, plus who would think kf would run a fake punt there? Absolutely no one. It damn near worked too if only he had a bit more speed

The fake punt definitely wasn’t called. It’s one of those options they give a rugby style punter to take if he sees a lane, but the staff wasn’t happy
Agree, you could see it on KF's face. He was not happy with Rastetter, and then OSU scored on the next play.

It wasn't really close to this and Michigan wasn't great, but I was 12 and in Kinnick in 1984 when we beat the Wolverines 26-0 and it was pretty awesome. It still was Michigan. And seeing Bo out on the field losing his mind all day was an iconic memory for me.

2004 Iowa vs Wisconsin to clinch a share of Big Ten...I remember sitting in the stands thinking that was a beat down...That was also the same year we last beat Ohio St, and that wasn't close either...And the 2003-2004 Outback bowl against Florida brings back biased memories of an ass kicking

I'm 76 and my first memory of Iowa football was when I was 11. I was helping my dad put a new roof on our house. Iowa was playing Ohio State, Evy was the coach and I can remember Tait Cummings on the radio broadcast. Ohio State was expecting to go to the Rose Bowl and in the words of Tait " Iowa unpacked Ohio States bags." This game was the same in that after OSU beat Penn State last week they were expecting to be in the top four in the playoffs.

For discussion purposes only but does this game beat the 12-10 #1 vs #2 game? Probably not, but damn, putting up 55 on tOSU is hard to beat

I'm 48 and it's the best game I've ever seen Iowa play against a highly ranked, talented team. Oddly I wouldn't call it the best I've ever seen because of the margin of victory. I saw but was not yet a Hawkeye fan at the time of the #1 vs. #2 game against Michigan. I was at the capital one bowl in 2005 and it was crazy! Also I was literally jumping up and down and screaming after the last play victories x2 vs. PSU, vs. MSU and last year's Michigan game. This one was really enjoyable but spread out over the entire game rather than a last play thrill. It was similar to the beat down against Michigan in the big house in 2002. Personally, I still have to call the capital one bowl the best ever for me.

I'm 67 and yesterday belongs in the TOP5 no matter how you look at it. In terms of scoring points I've gotta say that it reminded me of the 1984 Freedom Bowl shellacking we put on a ranked Texas team by, IIRC, by an identical score,.

edit: I just checked, and yes, we beat Texas by 55-17 in 1984. But I think yesterday was better, and against a better team.

2010 MSU is close.

I was at that MSU-Iowa game. I don't think it is the same because
1) Iowa had a great talent on 2010 and everyone expected that team was capable of that type performance
2) That was one of the weaker highly-rated MSU teams.
3) We usually hang tough with MSU, especially at home

OSU on other hand has long history of beat downs on Iowa and a mobile QB is usually bad news for our defense. Our offense hadn't shown much of a pulse.

51 here...it was great seeing the bullies of the B1G 10 back. Oline dominated their Dline. D shut down and bitch slapped their heisman like QB. Our coaches ran circles around their hall of fame staff. Future looks bright QB 4 looked phenomenal.

Most complete game I've witnessed vs a big time opponent in my opinion

I love hearing cool things like that from a long time ago. Thanks

2002 at Michigan was a heck of a game. 2010 over MSU was close. Clinching the B1G by thrashing WIsconsin in 2004 was more meaningful. Last nights win was just plain fun. Still can't believe it was Ohio State.

1982 vs. OSU at Kinnick was a breakthrough game for the program as well. I don’t recall how many years in a row we had lost to them but it was a long streak. I was 15 at the time and to this day it was one of the loudest moments in Kinnick I can remember when Chuck Long throws a post to Dave Moritz (who wasn’t a speed demon by any means) and he zigzagged all the way down the field with Shaun Gayle trying to grab him from behind. The crowd literally exploded and I thought the rafters were gonna come down!!! Final was 20-17 IIRC.

tOSU has been our Moby Dick. No Iowa series has been as lopsided.

Having been on the other side of many beatdowns from Brutus that was the most fun win I can remember and I've been a Hawk fan since 1973.

That drive back to Ohio was a long trip last night.

I think the 2002 game at Michigan ranks up there.

There's been several games where I have seen them be this dominant, just never against a team the caliber of Ohio State.

I felt like the game last night had the same feeling as that 2002 Michigan game as well. Not the same level of opponent, but before that Michigan game, the Wolverines seemed unbeatable historically. Since then they've been very beatable by the Hawkeyes. Ohio State is the last Big Ten team that has that mystique about them when it comes to playing Iowa. Almost like it's an L before it happens. I hope this helps put an end to the Ohio State mystique and we can start competing with them year in and year out. Everything went right yesterday, which won't always happen, but they dismantled one of the best teams in the country. Iowa can have a national contender, or we can play like the a middle of the pack Big Ten West team. I hope for more of the first. This team should be a lot of fun to watch moving forward.
