Kirk Ferentz is an absolute embarrassment

KF is a great coach. That said, Iowa is not getting to the level of OSU with him at the helm.

Is what it is.

Time for a change? Are we happy being a strong "next tier" program? Or roll the dice and go to compete for a championship?

Rolling that dice might mean utter destruction too.
One thing I will say, is that the OSU War Machine has distanced themselves from the rest of the conference (except for Michigan’s otherworldly 3-year run), and the gap will continue to get larger.

Look at their last 4-5 years. Their only losses are to the absolute elite teams of CFB.

Akron scored 6 1st half points. Marshall scored 14. MSU 7. Then they all got wore down. Iowa can't even compete offensively in 1st halves unless they are playing average teams.

You’re the same team every year. Sometimes (often) you duck the top of your league, and the record is better. But you’re still the same.
If only Iowa could play in a powder puff league where there are no good teams like the clowns do. Darn

KF's style no longer has a place in Big Time college football. He doesn't play to win, he plays not to lose. And the bend don't break attitude toward these big boy teams just doesn't work anymore, they have too good of athletes. I know Iowa doesn't have the same athletes, but you just can't play to keep punting all game.

No, @OSU you go for them both! Does KF have nudes of you?
No one wants to see those.

But, really, the calls Kirk made cannot be argued as just as easily supporting winning as the ones you want made?

He’s won nearly 200 games. He must have made way more good calls than bad.

35 trillion.

He has also lost more than any other coach in the B1G. That is a credit to his longevity that we as a state and university are nice and let him be mediocre 75% of his career. He isn't in the same breath as Woody, Bo or JoePa.
Agreed.

I think a proper metaphor for him is a mentally ill person degenerating over time: becoming more and more withdrawn from society over time, spiraling downward. He's now curled up into an absolute scared, protective ball where he literally does not even try to score points. In a game where you need points to win. Remember the big offenses we had at times? 2009, 2010, even with Stanley we scored some points. Now look what it has become. The conservatism just continues to spiral deeper and deeper. He's severally ill front a football standpoint. Not even pretending to try, and not caring what anyone thinks while he's at it. Those prior big offenses are like a faraway distant land that we will never visit ever again.

Does he give us the best chance to win?? I think at this point we can easily say No.
Bullshit, your ridiculous post is a freaking embarrassment.

is this a serious question? Iowa should just go ahead and concede inferiority because competing for championships is risky? JFC

Listen to yourself. And think for a second. OSU has a 20 million dollar roster. I'll say it again. 20 million. And they can buy it again every season. Of course we're never going to consistently get to OSU's level! If you want to be better, don't knock the coaches. Start giving money.

Vanderbilt has put up 30 points so far on #1 Alabama. Vanderbilt. Think about that.

He will never get over what she did to Brian but Iowa rubes will continue to enrich the Ferentz family and provide job security to all his buddies on staff and that is all KF really cares about at this point. You don't hire Budmayr as receivers coach if that wasn't the case.

Hopefully he isn't too embarrassing if that Ohio reporter asks him totally legit questions in the post game like 2 years ago

Bullshit, Kirk has a 62% winning percentage at Iowa. If you knew a damm thing about the history of Iowa football you would know that is way above the norm. Winning at Ohio State and Michigan has always been much, much easier than winning at Iowa and it always will be easier. There is no comparison. What Kirk has done at Iowa is much more impressive than what Bo and Woody have accomplished. If you were honest you would know that is true. Pretty much every poster on this site could win 75% of there games if they coached at Michigan or Ohio State, Alabama, etc.. But at Iowa a lot of highly respected coaches have come in and failed to win. Unfortunately NIL is going to make it even more difficult to win at Iowa in the present and future. You guys that are bitching so much better get your damn checkbooks out if you want to win.

We all knew this was coming today. I was expecting worse actually. Whether people like it or not, KF isn't going anywhere until he wants to. But, like after every loss on this board, let's waste time discussing it like there's a remote possibility.

I've been 'done' with Kirk probably three or four times now over the past decade. After he got away with keeping BF in 2023 in the face of consecutive years of putrid offense, I just resigned myself to the fact KF is here to stay.

The Ferentz Fear Factor is not going away. The paranoid gene only gets stronger with age.

It's a top 5 coaching call embarrassment all-time for KF to call that timeout on the fake punt.

But It's not going to get better. It just comes with KF. You have to accept the bad with the good.

The thing is, Kirk gets knocked when he's at or above any coach in the program's history. How is that something to attack?

Don’t tell me you are just now arriving at this conclusion. Iowa has now lost eight in a row to AP ranked teams, the last four by a combined score 127-7. Irrelevant, and this guy doesn’t have a clue of how to make the team competitive.

There was a path today towards making this a competitive game. He willingly went down the other path twice.

He’s a good coach and a good man.

But we have not been competitive against ranked teams for years. We certainly used to be during his tenure.

There’s not many Iowa teams that could have walked into OSU today and won. I think we all get that.

But I think most objective observers would ask how Iowa found itself in the position where the AD forced the Coach to fire the OC. To me it’s coach’s loyalty and stubbornness.

It’s is also unreasonable in college football today in my view to have kept an OC with those results around that many years. We lost those years and wasted some fine defenses.

I like the new OC and it’s going to take some time, but we also need a head coach to realize he needs to a change a bit imo.

Markfromj reminds me of Nebraska fans who always bring up how they won national championships. Dude is living in the past. KFs time has come and it's gone. It's time to move on ! Big time college football has passed him by. Why is this hard to comprehend ?

20 million has nothing to do with Iowas inept passing game and offense, plenty of non big ten smaller schools field a decent offense and qb and thats on the head coach for not changing his style of offense to the modern game.

Kirk is a phenomenal human being, and until around 2015, a fantastic coach. But the game has passed him by, it's evolved into something he can no longer be competitive in. Yes, we beat terrible programs like Northwestern, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Purdue. But when it comes to getting to the next level, the gap is wider than ever. It's time for him to go.
