How much does it matter to you that the streaming service is ad-free?

The other thread was about the cost of cable which naturally led to blends of cable and streaming services and how much we pay for different combos. Some people also talked about their cable replacement packages (like YouTubeTV and HULU Live).

The question in this thread is which content streamers (not cable replacements like YouTubeTV) people LIKE BEST.

So we're talking about things like

Netflix
Prime (just the TV and Movie content part)
HULU
Disney
AppleTV+
Peacock
Paramount+
AMC+
BritBox
Acorn
PBS Passport

I'm sure there are more.

If you could have only a handful of them, which would top your list?

Max (HBO) is my favorite, followed by Netflix. Everything else is hit or miss depending on what you are into.

Netflix has arguably the best content - but also the highest price. $17.99 for the 1080p tier without ads.

Prime is the hardest to cancel because, if you are like me, you are getting other discounts or benefits (shipping, discount on Amazon Music, free books...).

I still think MAX is great, but their new offerings haven't been as good, imo. Where are the great shows like Game of Thrones, The Wire, The Sopranos, the first season of The Detective, etc.?

I just cancelled them for a while. The only show I'm missing is The Pitt. I'll just binge it the next time I sign up (in a few months).

Newcomer AppleTV+ may have a thin catalog but it's an excellent catalog.

You are not wrong, but also if making those types of quality shows was easy, everyone would do it. I do like the sports docs that they have been creating lately. White Lotus is also pretty good.

Main complaint I have with prime and it’s streaming library:
1) when shows or movies get dropped, I’d love to seem them get bumped to the bottom of my list or something. Annoying to browse the watchlist and realize it’s not available any longer.
2) having to add individual seasons of the same show. Somehow I realized that I have each season of Reacher added individually to my watchlist.

I do like the expansive library they have. When I’m occasionally in the mood to try something different, they probably have the best indie library out there.
