Best QB Showing in Years for Iowa

$20 less per month than they could have because I don't give.

QB’s are now going to be going for a million a piece. And that’s the lower tier guys. As we now see the top guys are going for 10 mil and it’s going to keep going up. 20 mil for those guys in a couple years. It’s inevitable. The Swarm collective needs to find a way to stream cash into the coffers consistently or Iowa is really fu*ked. This shit is going to get very expensive.
I got an idea? What about the fans actually contributing to SWARM?

New QB looked really promising especially under the circumstances. He never really missed any throws, just some were incomplete but still a very good showing.
Love his potential.
I get it that Iowa is trying to win the game, but the conservative play calling up by 13 with 8 minutes left and just refusing to throw the ball infuriates me.

Agreed. I think this season is proof that only leaning on 2 of 3 facets to win games is not sustainable - when one of those facets takes a step back we're focked. Winning games when you're throwing for not even 100 yards isn't sustainable either.

Sully is at best a reasonable backup QB. His style of play is an injury in the waiting with no chance of finishing a long season.

yeah i like him. he has no weapons at all to throw to so he can't do very much, but he is calm and puts ball on the money when asked to.
With Lachey and Ostrenga back, I wouldn’t say he has “no weapons” to throw to. Also, Jacob Gill is a serviceable receiver.

Every QB is susceptible to injury. His running skills are exceptional. He can learn to be a little more susceptible, but you don’t sit a Vince Young because he might hurt. And yes, I understand he isn’t Vince Young. But he does add a dimension to our offense we’ve only had a couple other times.

A pro style first QB with a big arm with just enough mobility to escape a rush and gain a few yards then slide safely home is way better then a backyard football scampering injury waiting to happen.

I'm glad we won, but Cade had been going 10/14 for 74 yards in the first half of each of his starts.

This isn't even the best showing by a QB this year.
Sullys size and running ability really add a unique dimension. Jackson has better arm and more accurate passer.
Agreed 100%. Based on my memory, Cade's best performance was in the second half against a FCS opponent. Beyond that, he was one of the worst QB's in the league - so it comes down to Sully vs. Jackson. I like them both, but we really, really need to upgrade our QB room and not rely on former Northwestern or Colorado State walk-ons to pin our hopes on......

Sully's natural running ability is exceptional, but his decision making when running needs work.

When to slide, how to slide, when to run out of bounds, how to avoid big hits.

He seemed indecisive, perhaps over-thinking, in this regard versus UCLA. And it got him hurt.

I do think the play of Sully and Jackson have put to bed the stupid notion that you need two years to learn to run a college offense. That’s always been a BS excuse not to play another QB.

Kirk Ferentz hates changing QBs and he honestly thinks sticking with the same guy even if he isn't performing is the best policy, Too that end, he's willing to stretch his own credibility and come up with a lot of excuses that are obviously not truthful.

Watching Sullivan and Jackson, I would say both guys are more gifted physically/athletically/skill wise than the current version of Cade McNamarra we have.

I think the combination Sullivan/Jackson is a lot better than >> Petras, Padillo, Cade, Deacon. I think we would have adequate to good QB play next year with Sullivan/Jackson, but our OL likely to be worse and no KJ, and defense is likely worse. So we probably have worse overall team next year. Getting a great QB through the portal alone won't make Iowa great because we have so many holes in the supporting cast.

I also think Sullivan/Jackson could surprise to the upside and be trully well above average at QBs next year. That would never be possible for Petras, Padillo, Deacon, Cade.

Maybe. I think MSU and UCLA had more to do with our D than our O.
Well, if Sullivan was just in on the first two goal to goal situations vs ISU then we probably have them buried at halftime 21-0 and win that game. Then the MSU game was just trying to stay with them in the first half as which we couldnt hardly move the ball.

Completely agree, although our OL has enough coming back it could surprise. And if Parker can find another lock down CB, like he seems to do, that would help a lot.

I think there were some injuries that were not talked about…that became sport as the game wore on..plus they had a “bad night”… Shit happens. But remember it took one helluva field goal for UCLA to win that game. It was a frustrating loss, granted… but not as frustrating as the MSU debacle.
Sully shit the bed vs UCLA and the defense didn't help much.

Hopefully it takes the young QB longer than 2 games to regress like some have here over the years.

Hoping for just one more decent game from him. Then head to the bowl game going for the 9th win with whomever Kirkyboy wants.

lol, wut? It was the Defense’s fault the offense couldn’t score any points? Are you high or stupid
When you give up long , sustained drives to a shitty offense, you limit the number of times the offense gets the ball. So yes, it is the defense’s fault we lost the 2 road games to trash teams. They were soft. Take your medicine Phil, and be better.

No. But Cade also wasn't out there giving up 468 and 414 yards on D.
Did Iowa lose those games primarily because the opponent scored a lot of points (above their averages) or because Iowa scored very few (below the averages allowed)? Hawaii was the only team that UCLA held to fewer points than Iowa this year. They're giving up 26 points per game. Iowa scored 17.

Iowa St is averaging 31 points per game. Iowa allowed only 20. They're allowing just over 19. Iowa scored 19.

The 12th ranked defense is still the strength of this team. The defense didn't play great in those 2 games, but they played well enough to win. The offense needs to be able to score 20+ points. If they do then Iowa wins those games.
