Best War Movies Per Conflict

Dunkirk
Thin Red Line
1917
Great Escape
Longest Day
Big Red 1
Stalingrad
Saving Private Ryan
All Quiet on the Western Front
Inglorious Basterds

Good choices if you mean the original and last version of All Quiet on the Western Front. The 1980(?) iteration was weak.

No mention of Gettysburg which kind of surprises me. Yes it is a little too dramatic at times but Jeff Daniel’s kills it at Chamberlain. Both Berenger and Sheen are excellent as Longstreet and Lee.

Downfall was an obscure but relevant movie (story) that sheds light on Hitler's mental state and the fragile condition of the Third Reich in its final days. Based on historical accounts I've come across in years studying the period as a hobby, including accounts from witnesses residing in and present at crucial points in the Bunker, recorded interviews with Axis and USSR military personnel, many of course represented in the movie, the accounts and events were for the most part accurate.

It's a powerful story although it tended to project a human angle towards Hitler. The guy blew his brains out after a murderous reign.

Until You watch Restrepo I really don't want to hear opinions. i have hours of documentary from Baghdad. I wont release it until I'm over it

"Gone With the Wind" is not getting much acclaim from our posters. I thought that was considered the hands-down all-time greatest Civil War movie.

The book won the Pulitzer prize in 1937 and the film won best picture of 1939 at the Academy Awards. I do not think anything since has matched the scale and grandeur of this epic war movie.

If tv miniseries count, The Winds of War, along with War and Remembrance were intriguing.

We are currently watching The Sons of Liberty, a miniseries originally on The History Channel (we are watching on Prime). It is really good so far, it is set in 1765 - 1776, all the stuff leading up to the American Revolutionary War.

There must be 100 WWII movies out there not counting the foreign made films and "All Quiet on the Western Front is getting a decent amount of deserved acclaim as a WWI film. Eric Maria Remarque also wrote a truly excellent novel about life as a refugee during WWII in Paris. The title was "Arch of Triumph" and the 1948 film version starred Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer. (There is also a 1984 version which I have not seen.)

It is certainly a top five along with "Casablanca" from the same general vintage and also starring Ingrid Bergman.
