Beth Needs To Open the Checkbook

McCullom showing that NIL isn't the end all be all for college basketball.

Sure, he'll want Iowa to step up with NIL, but I'd love to see the comparison of Drake and Mizzou.

They absolutely dismantled Mizzou and if they could shoot better that 50% at the line, they game would have been more of a blowout

Oh and....

Her job became tougher after tonight . He’s gonna be in high demand.
Are there going to be several programs more distinguished than Iowa suddenly needing a new head coach because Drake won tonight?

I still consider Iowa a more attractive program (for BMac at least) than Minn, WVa and Va, and I don't picture Villanova going for a guy who was in Div II last year.

I guess we'll see, but like I said, I think that a deal is all but done.

Anyone paying attention EXPECTED Drake to win tonight. If they make the sweet 16, then it gets interesting.

Hopefully Beth has had some conversations and has some kind of relationship.
I mean she may have had a deal in place, I hope so and it could end up working out great.

The bad news is this guy is gonna be a bigger story now (and his key players that we would go after) and you just never know what may come along and mess this up for Iowa.

I hope you are right , and I also hope a few of his players want to follow him to Iowa

Beat me to it.

I agree. Pay the man whatever he wants. I have no doubt that if he is hired, the fans will come to Carver next year and NIL contributions will increase.
Would have been a lot easier if there was more money from game receipts and concessions!

I just keep thinking ..... what it would be like to watch an Iowa squad be able to go toe-to-toe with the ISU/MSU/ILL/WIS, etc, teams on their schedule both defensively and on the boards, instead of getting out-huslted and wilting like dying flowers at the first hint of contact all the GD time!?

If Ben is the coach I think he is and is as confident as it appears he is, he doesn't fear becoming the coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes and whatever NIL stuff gets talked about. He knows he can coach and he knows he'll get the job done as long as he has some resources. He embraces taking Iowa to the next level.

Yes but he cant come to Iowa and compete in this conference with D2 players. He needs NIL to consistently compete especially now with this huge conference

That’s why you need a coach that understands roster construction and play the moneyball game. You can put together teams of all mid major transfers and do just fine with the right coach. Just look at ISU.

He just beat the 6th place SEC team by double digits with D-II players with zero NIL and it would have been a complete ass-whooping if they’d made their free throws.

The man can coach….with or without NIL.

Iowa already spends a similar level to what ISU does, the nil fund will increase and theres revenue sharing money too. So yeah he'll have some money to spend.

He already went out and found better transfers to go to Drake than Fran did to go to Iowa so I think he'll find who he needs to compete.

You can get far more bang for the buck bringing mid major players up to the major level than you can trying to pay millions to poach guys like Hunter Dickinson and Owen Freeman.

Availability of players is not the problem, coaching was Iowas problem.

Drakes success will work in Iowas favor if they do land BM. Keep winning and the hype will generate interest , attract talent, and bolster the amount of $ flowing into the program. I really hope it’s a done deal and we finally have hope again for men’s hoops

Iowa fans need to open their checkbooks. This program is at a major inflection point and the AD has an opportunity to bring in a coach that can lead the Hawks past the first weekend of the Tournament and beyond if he has the resources just to be competitive with the marketplace

If you are passionate about Iowa basketball, please consider donating what you can. Even if it’s 20 bucks (which doesn’t seem like much, but adds up across a large number of people), you can designate it to go entirely to men’s basketball either on the donation page on the SWARM website or saying that’s where you want it to go in the Venmo description

I’ve been around these boards long enough to know how much dissent and disagreement there is, but I also know that we are all Hawk fans who just want to see the team win. If you can’t see the vision and an opportunity to help watching Drake dismantle Missouri with a bunch of D2 players tonight, then I don’t know what else to say. If we want to attract a coach to take the program to the next level, we have to supplement those “whales” who are donating larger amounts

I’d sure hate to have to compete annually against opponents with better players though.
This is inevitable. We aren't Duke circa 1992. Iowa isn't going to have a top-5 roster in the Big Ten, at least not right away, but the program doesn't have to. They can finish around mid-pack in conference next year (not impossible to do as FM proved for many years) simply by hiring a coach whose style is better suited to this conference, and who is a better in-game coach than FM was.

If Drake plays Miz 10 more times, how many do they win? Did Miz show their best ball or Drake just dominated because of Mc magic system bb elixir? Not knocking M but the transferrence of success from season to season and school to school is wildly unpredictable. Stay $ sober.

His players seem to be more fast twitch players then what we've had and certainly more physical. Quick jumpers to be able to rebound against a bigger team.
Stirtz showed up Perkins. What a smooth and heady player.

I can't see Freeman playing for McCollum. Doesn't seem to be his type of player

BMac would/will take a team of players of typical Iowa caliber and make them very competitive in the Big Ten.
