Beyer is our Bartman

It sucks and he was at fault....but where were his teammates to pull him out of there?

I am not going to attempt to defend his screwup. It was unthinkable and cost the team 7 points. It was definitely ONE factor in losing the game. However, it happened early enough in the game that the Hawks had opportunities to overcome it and take control of the game. Here are just a few other factors that contributed to the loss:
The inability to convert a 4th and one on the first drive. Stanley is not as good in this situation as I would hope considering his size.
A horrific 3rd down call in the first half. There was no one to account for a future NFL LB. Apparently the RB was just supposed to be able to make him miss while running laterally. Not to mention calling a lateral run on 3rd and 6.
The punt returner losing the ball after running into the back of a guy who was being blocked.
The defensive line getting abused. They could gain 6-8 yards on practically every running play. I was amazed they even tried to pass. Watch the replay and see how many times the d linemen were 3-4 yards downfield.
It looked like the back 7 forgot how to tackle this week.
Stanley's inability to make a play when the game was on the line. His miss on the first down throw was every bit as egregious as Beyer's gaff. He missed 7 of his last nine throws and the INT that sealed the game was high and way too hard for the situation. Beyer was rightly criiticized for lack of situational awareness-Stanley was guilty of the same on the INT.
So yes, Beyer's play was definitely a boneheaded move but it is actually just one of many things that happened in losing a game they should have won.

If Beyer's has no place to go for Thanksgiving and Christmas, he's welcome at our house the rest of his life.

Holy crap people, build a bridge and get over it.

Yes being pushed backwards is totally unthinkable

Another big mistake that is not being mention much, is trying to run wide on second and 2 on the next to last drive. The Hawks were in great field position and had just picked up 8 yards on first down. Instead of running between the tackles or calling a play action and rolling Stanley out with an option to run or a short toss to a back of TE, they run wide which was NOT going to work in that situation, against that defense.
This! I haven't rewatched the game but live I was just so dissappointed in the call.

Two RB split set will hold the LB, run #28 behind #61 and #74... move the sticks, run the clock. 3 or 4 first downs and the game is over.

I agree. I said it at the game. But where I live the sun has come up twice now since Saturday night.

Shitty coaching here if the other two who were there were not screaming for everyone to get away. I believe one show I watched noted it did not look like anyway was yelling to get away toward Beyer. For all he knew someone was trying to return the ball as he was not looking back and the Badger player he was blocking was trying to come full force yet. Again shitty special teams coaching and not just on Beyer.

If the Iowa defense would have not allowed Wisconsin to go 88 yards virtually uncontested for the winning TD, Beyer's miscue would be moot.

Was this after the fair catch at the 2.5 yards line with under a minute to go? 97.5 yards drives with under a minute are right in Iowa's wheelhouse.......,..
Considering the Hawkeyes were to get the ball back in the second half, throwing that opportunity away is like tossing an unscratched lottery ticket in the trash. I don't think any single play is to blame for a loss. I think it was a multitude of dumb decisions like this one that probably upended any chance for the Hawkeyes to make it to Indy.

There are a million scenarios you could go over and over again, but the bottom line is the Wisconsin is a very disciplined, well-coached team that played a mistake-free game on the road in a hostile environment. Give credit where credit is due. You could say they "out-Iowa'd" Iowa, because they play exactly like we would like Iowa to play; they've taken the KF M.O. to the next level, like we wish Iowa would. Nothing fancy - they just win.

It's a dumb thread because anyone who knows anything about baseball and was paying attention knows Alex Gonzalez tanking a routine double play right after is what screwed the Cubs in 03. And not showing up in game 7. People who bring up bartman just want to pick on the Cubs and the stupid notion they were cursed.

The Beyer play was really bad but there were a lot of mistakes Saturday that cost us. Poorly executed football throughout against a consistently better coached program is a recipe for an L....that's why we haven't won at home vs them in a decade, not Beyer. He will be a solid TE one day I think, hope he learns from this. I think he will

No! I was going with Bartman to show how pathetic it was to villify one guy for making one mistake. Bartman is a textbook study in fans with loser mentalities looking for a scapegoat. My message was to leave the guy alone and look at the entire game.

Okay, gotya. As a lifelong Cub fan I get annoyed whenever I hear that poor guy brought up. If we are gonna point out mistakes let's stick to the players, Cub or Hawk. Beyer's was clearly one of the more obvious ones but plenty of mistakes to choose from vs badgers.

Where were YOU when the infamous 8th inning of the Bartman game took place?

I was at an allegedly now torn-down bar in Great Lakes, IL called the Anchor.

I threw a pint jug thru my window when Gonzalez booted the DP ball , a $500 tantrum , it was worth every penny .

Watch the play before this in the game and see how good the drive was by the cnenter and the two guards. They had driven the dline back 4 to 5 yards. We then go outside if it ain't broke don't fix it. Run it until they stop it and chew up the clock

That was not Beyer’s fault. The returner needs to be yelling at the top of his lungs to get away. Beyer was just doing his job.

Disagree. Being night here in Denver on Saturday, I got to hear the post-game on WHO. One of the first questions Dolph asked Ferentz about WAS that play. While Dolph sugar coated the question, Ferentz was pretty direct about it. He replied. " Yeah, that was a stupid play". Really caught me off guard hearing Ferentz be that dorect.

This is a great point^^^^and one I was making to my friend as I watched the play. Ur PR guy should have been waving his arms and yelling to keep players away from the ball. But ur PR guy didnt do anything to help him out.

Yeah it was a mistake by the dude who kicked the ball, but it should be a shared mistake between him and the returner who didnt do his job.

Tough loss for u guys I thought u were going to pull it out.

Much like Bartman and the Cubs......one play never loses a game.
