Iowa needs to find a big man for next year. Nothing against Nunge but you can’t rely on him to stay healthy. The big freshman ( name I can’t recall) looked really green. They should be pretty salty next year if they could plug a big in off of a transfer.

If this message board has any influence, I’ve seen us getting either Foster (regrets his ISU commitment) or Robbins (Dick Jr and staff gone) coming here.

Let’s get both. And let’s get the guard from Oral Roberts who’s leading the country in scoring to transfer in while we’re at it.

Josh O may surprise next year. and I think Nunge will be fine physically as far as his knee. The issue will be if it effects him mentally, and he'll miss several valuable months of training time to prepare him for next season. If Fran can't add another big we'll see a much different offense then this year not based on feeding the dominant post player. It will be interesting to see how that effects Cmac's playing time, as that kind of eliminates the need for his best skill. It will certainly be interesting.......

Much can change between now and next year. I don't know what the recovery time is for Nunge's injury (meniscus vs ACL) but it was likely Iowa would have been in the market for a grad transfer big man anyway, and especially now that Nunge got hurt. Iowa would be very attractive to a big guy wanting to play basketball in the Big 10. Immediate playing time available.

My question about Josh O is can he jump at all? Or, will he have the same vertical as Luka. Although, that has never stopped Luka from becoming a legend. I would LOVE for Robbins to make it back home to be a Hawk.....but not counting on that.

As for Jack, I think he his mentally tough enough to play with determination and not let this injury impact him. You can tell after his father's passing that he was playing with an edge. Unfortunately life changing events happen and you adjust to them for the better or worse. Think losing his father will make him play at an even higher mental level. He will be tougher and more focused now than ever. Wish him the best! Have to cheer so much for a kid that has been through a lot in his college career.

Fran's teams traditionally lack strength and bulk inside. Next year could be really thin unless somebody falls into our lap.

As CH said above, Foster is tall...but he's not a physical presence. JO could be, but he has a ways to go based on what we saw early in the season. He'll be a redshirt Frosh next year and still developing.

Nunge has faced enough hurdles for an entire team, kid can't catch a break. Gotta feel for him. Even if he can come back, he's not really an inside presence either.

Remember the 80s when CBB had centers that were 6'7 or 6'8?

Depending on the lineup they're facing, a 6-10 or 6-11 big body isn't always necessary. But there will be opponents that require it. As much as I love what Keegan Murray brings it would be completely unfair to ask him to try to play a guy like illinois Cockburn down low.

For facing an opposing team with a true big bruiser at 5 I'm hopeful that Josh O will make the jump next season that allows him to play significant minutes. Between him and a hopefully returning Nunge I could see them handling the interior. I'm not opposed to looking at the transfer portal; actually I hope they do. I'd rather have both the big guys already on the roster be up to the task.

I think Clay Hargrave was 6’4” and led the B1G in rebounding but that was a long time ago.
Clay was listed at 6'4", but I don't think he was quite that tall. Physical player and a great leaper, he led the B1G in rebounding at 9.9 per game in 1977-78. He wasn't the center, though. Larry Olsthoorn started in the middle and was backed up by Steve Waite. William Mayfield was the other starting forward and a fine rebounder himself. Clay was the shortest guy on the front line.

Would love to see them get a 5 in the portal. Really feel like it's important to the teams success next season unless Jack can stay healthy and Josh O has made HUGE strides.

Good stuff, forgot about Olsthoon but can’t forget Steve Waite, hard worker on the glass

I always thought we needed a big banger to come in and play some defense but in thinking about it and realizing the type of team and offense we will have a skinny, tall and mobile shotblocker might fit the bill as well. Probably there is a player in a medium to low major conference who had success and would like to move up to a higher level. Or tough it out for a year with who we've got and wait for Mulvey or someone similar.

Fun fact about Clay. He wore #44, as did his roommate Jon Lazar. They had a black TransAm with Hawk44 license plates.
