No positives for a Big Ten team to lose to Utah St in anything. It just means your program is dog shit.

Then how is Iowa St doing so well? And before someone says “they have that 1 sugar daddy” tell me how much he’s actually paying. I’d like some facts which nobody can provide. Iowa St goes out like tonight and plays their asses off for their coach because he demands it.
Exactly, and add to that a fanbase who really provide a great home advantage.

If an Iowa fans Doom and Gloomer had a criteria of making a Sweet16 or Better to have their angst fade away than they've been in a dark mood since 1999. A good run over 4 games doesn't change anything or portend a sudden improvement in the program.

Some athletic Directors/schools are adjusting to NIL and thriving and then we have the Universtiy of Iowa.

We can badmouth ISU, but they've had a coach for past 3 years that costs about 1/3 of what Fran costs and they have flirted with Top10 rankings and have a Sweet16.

I'd give Fran's left nut for ISU level of success. Paying Fran (and Kirk in football) Big bucks and having dog chit for NIL doesn't work for anyone that wants Hardware/exceptional achievments. Of course for Fran and KIrk it works pretty well.
You know, one can actually look up the salaries of these coaches. Why exaggerate?

Fran 3.4 million(plus he’s been at Iowa for 2 million years)

TJ’s 2024-2025 salary is 3 million. Something tells me that he won’t be below Fran for much longer.

I like Dix and the Sandfort brothers. We have lost one game. Utah State will end the season with a great record and is most likely an NCAA tournament team. My only issue is that if you’re supposed to be great shooters, then you actually need to knock down open looks. I still think this team can have a nice year if we stay healthy.

TJ started out at much, much lower salary than Fran at $1.5 million level. Yes, TJ will end up making more than Fran because he has delivered a LOT more than Fran.

My recollection is the ISU payroll for NIL last year was around $1.2 million. I would assume their NIL budget is higher this year because success brings in more money and on the other side of coin NIL salaries have gone up as more schools see more NIL means more success.

There was a good article on TJ awhile back that wrote about how he plays moneyball and gets the most out of his NIL budget. His system focuses on defense/rebounding and those type players are cheaper on NIL market + TJ's success has allowed him to draw players at less than market.

Contrast that with Fran who has offensive only mindset, never been to Sweet16 in his 28 or so year career as head coach. Fran likes guys that can shoot, doesn't give a damn about defense/rebounding and that system has been DOA in ncaa tourney play.

I think Fran will leave on his own for Butler within 2 years----the fix looks to be in for Matta to retire and Fran to step in. That is why all the McCaffery's are taking root at Butler. If Fran doesn't leave on his own, the buyout is expensive and limits coaching salary. I am not convinced high coaching salary is the path to better results...Iowa needs more NIL money.

Can Iowa find another TJ Otzelberger out there? Probably not.

Iowa ought to be able to do better in NIL than they do. I put the lack of NIL on the AD, university politics, and Fran not being much of a promoter other than for his own salary.

I like Dix

Michigan State has never lost to Oakland.

What a dumbass post.

Oakland vs MSU series
Well....Excuse Me....I did make a mistake....But, for the record, Oakland Community College lost to Michigan State 75 to 71 in 2007, 77 to 76 in 2010, 67 to 63 in 2013, and 99 to 93 in 2015...

The original post's point was that a Big Ten team that loses any game to an inferior opponent such as Utah State is dogshit...

My point is that Michigan State program is clearly NOT dogshit, but they have struggled early season with an inferior opponent...
