Sunday
A chance of rain and snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 45. Breezy, with a northwest wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Ugh.
Moreover, the last thing that Iowa needs is for a B1G conference game to be cancelled because of weather . . . particularly against an opponent which has struggled this year.
It's not an elimination for either. Both can play themselves in regardless of who wins that series. Nebraska's RPI is more of a problem than Iowa's currently. My guess is the conference gets three teams. Minnesota is playing decent baseball right now. A sweep will be tough.Low stress victory for the Hawkeyes last night. Didn't get to see any of it because, you know, the whole "gotta earn a living" thing. But . . positive RPI points by winning a mid-week home game isn't a bad thing. Really need to sweep Minnesota before setting up a showdown against Nebraska.
I'd be curious to get @Alum-Ni 's take but my feeling is that the Iowa/Nebraska series is awfully darn close to an at-large elimination series. Neither team's RPI is eye-opening and the B1G will receive, at most, 2 at-large invitations. Iowa cannot afford to lose another B1G series at home (if any at all) and Nebraska really needs a road series win against a team that was supposed to contend for B1G regular season crown.
Plus the conf. tourney gets an auto bid which may be diff than reg season champ so could be a combo of Iowa/Neb/Maryland.It's not an elimination for either. Iowa is in better shape than Nebraska.....Huskers have some really bad mid-week losses that will likely keep them out of the bubble conversation.Low stress victory for the Hawkeyes last night. Yep, that loss to Omaha dropped them 32 RPI spots and now they are in the 120-130 range..yikes! We need at least a series win vs them next weekend.Iowa is in better shape than Nebraska.....Huskers have some really bad mid-week losses that will likely keep them out of the bubble conversation.
True. That was an absolute screwjob re: Rutgers last eyar, this board would've went bonkers if that resume was Iowa's!Didn't help second place Rutgers (44-15/RPI #43) last year. Michigan winning the B1G tournament essentially displaced the regular season runner-up.
Indiana is currently the B1G's top RPI team and is at the top of the conference standings right now.
NU plays well on the weekends....and has a decent B1G start. But man, those mid-week games.....oofYep, that loss to Omaha dropped them 32 RPI spots and now they are in the 120-130 range..yikes! We need at least a series win vs them next weekend.

Traditionally they’d play Western Illinois at this point in the season and again after finals. Trouble is, such a win is a loser in the RPI race. Too few D1’s within Iowa’s archaic, midweek travel policy. Why is Iowa playing a Division II school.....especially at this point in the season?
Originally there was no game scheduled. Glad Heller picked them up last minute to keep momentum going. Why is Iowa playing a Division II school.....especially at this point in the season?
It’s a way to get players that don’t play much some work. No impact to the RPI, so it’s better than playing a directional Illinois team. Why is Iowa playing a Division II school.....especially at this point in the season?

PSU AT Nebraska-Omaha…..wow, that’s crazy for a mid week game.
Iowa settled at #39 somehow.
I don't see any B1G games today.
I don't see any games today that potentially impact Iowa, but sometimes games don't show up until later on in the day.
This weekend is
Illinois / Rutgers
tOSU / UNCG
Northwestern / Michigan
Purdue / Indiana
Minnesota / Maryland
Penn State / Nebraska
Friday game is 6:05, and barring any changes should be #39 / #78
Yep....played in Omaha Wednesday night and play a series in Lincoln right away after that.To be fair, they play in Lincoln on Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Efficient scheduling.
No way in hell do they travel to Omaha for a mid-week game if they are hosting a B1G opponent in Happy Valley this weekend.

That's the thing about RPI. Every game played has an impact on someone and that means that point totals will rise/fall. Arizona State didn't play yesterday but some "Indirect Games" affecting ASU likely broke their way and caused them to move up the ladder late last night.
For Iowa, one game involving a prior opponent. St. Peters at Quinnipiac (+2.8/-2.4).
The SEC often schedules games on Thurs, Fri, Sat. LSU isn't playing tonight but results of SEC games will impact a fair number of teams around Iowa in the standings and can result in moving up/down a few spots.
Really looking forward to seeing RPI impact for this weekend's games. Hoping that Iowa can pick up 20+ for a win and that a loss isn't more than 40. My guess is something around (+22/-46).
Nicely done? Peacocks throwing their JV squad?Quinnipiac, despite missing a PAT, helped out Iowa's RPI numbers today by beating St. Peters . . . 27-0.
