Bill Farrell? How to follow?

Great win for Spencer getting back into it. Thought his tank looked pretty good compared to some past matches. Incredible strength and positional awareness and was able to deal with Nico's cement ass, to borrow Tarp's phrase. He should only continue to look better as he comes back from injury. Some of those knee positions in the scrambles were nerve-wracking as hell though.

Also cool to see Royce in our guy's corners. Does he have some official role or just legend status so he can do stuff like that?
Is Royce still head coach of TMWC? I’d assume that’s why he could be there.

Lees defense was a very encouraging sign IMO. He didn’t hesitate to go into a rubber knee defense, and Nico had his knees in some dicey situations. Kept his cool and scrambled brilliantly. Lost a little steam from his all out lace attempt on top, but you can’t fault a guy for smelling blood in the water and going for the kill - especially when you have Lees finishing ability. More often than not, once he gets that first lace/gut, he can keep it going for the tech.

Yoep
Oh duh, yep. I still don't really understand the TMWC deal. Basically bankrolling most of these guys vs. actually training?
I believe TMWC and the other big clubs pay for the entry fees (and travel expenses?) while the smaller clubs pay to keep the guys around and training in their respective facilities.

I'm sure it's more complicated than that, but it's how I understand it.

gotta lower expectations for Lee and Desanto going forward. not fair to them and makes yall look dumb. Those in the know were saying Spencer is a TF better than Gilman rn and he wins by an exposure over Nico, while Nolf wins by tech over both Kem and bull. desanto shoulda been our 57 but probably went 65 to avoid drama with SL. oh well.

Does he qualify?
No, you have to win gold to qualify. This link says highest USA placer that finished at least top 4, so only Larkin qualified today at 65.

Straight up ruhtard.

Announcer said he was #50 on Big Board last year, freshman at ASU.

I was thinking, why does this never happen with our mid-tier recruits? Rathjen lost in R16 @ Lindenwood today. This guy wins a major FS tourney.

All they really do at the academy in Arizona is wrestle freestyle since they are not allowed to wrestle AIA or places like Ironman IIRC which may account for their lack of high rankings. He has placed high in a lot of tournaments. He and his little bro are very good.

They do quite a bit of folk there at Valiant.

Spencer’s defense was remarkable, and he needed it because Mega was the aggressor, especially in the second period.
I rewatched his matches and the physicality from neutral was impressive. He let Mega get to his legs too easily but was able to defend and score off his opponents’ shots. Was surprised he wasn’t able to turn the leg lace in the finals; Mega did a great job defending that. The tough finals match should build his confidence and help shake off any tentativeness he may have had after the long layoff from competition.

Isn't there another one? Eloy kid I believe.
Aidan his brother- 195.

Izzy Ybarra has also been in the Rankings (last spring summer as high as 12th)

That while eloy group has a few young kids now that are also gonna be real good.

Other ranked kids to start the year from VCP:

Chris Castillo- 120 11th
Kyler Larkin - 132 12th
Adrián Meza - 132 12th
Dean Anderson- 132 9th

These rankings referenced are matscouts, because Willie does the best job ranking kids.
