Blair Brooks

Great pickup! He's one of those guys that could make a difference as a junior or senior, but he's going to have to dedicate himself to being 100% football

Check what I said earlier. Guess it wasn’t an offer from ISU. Maybe he visited or something.

He rec'd a track scholarship and is walking on for FB, see below from Hawk Central:

"IOWA CITY, Ia. — The Hawkeyes have landed a verbal commitment from one of eastern Iowa's better all-around senior athletes.

Blair Brooks, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound receiver from Marion High, announced he'd play for Iowa via Twitter on Saturday. The reigning Class 3A long-jump and high-jump state champion, Brooks will attend Iowa on a track scholarship and play football as a preferred walk-on.

  • Brooks entered the weekend with 32 catches for 464 yards and nine touchdowns. He hauled in 39 passes for 599 yards and five touchdowns last year.
He held offers from FCS programs Western Illinois and South Dakota, as well as strong interest from Iowa State. He had an Iowa game-day visit during the Illinois game last weekend."

Any clue to the % of track aid?
I’d guess 5-10%

Iowa track offered him scholarship money, but he's going to walk on so he can play football too.

If he accepted the track scholarship money, whatever the percentage, he'd count as a scholarship player for football if he played.

That's done so football teams can't stash players away on the track team and get extra scholarships.

Anyway, that's how Blair Brooks explained his plans to us today.

So he'd have to have a full ride if he plays/get football player benefits if he gets a track scholarship?

No.
The way i understand it is the min. He plays a down of football he can no longer receive any other aid.
So he can walk on in track and football, earn some aid in track then get football $$ when ready to play fball.
Same rule applies for bball players.

Gotcha, only way he gets football scholarship money is if he earns a football scholarship from Iowa. But if he doesn't earn it and plays football, he can't get any more financial aid.
