I walked away from IC with a very favorable opinion of this kid. Admittedly, I haven't watched PSU much this year, other than a few highlights of their big duals, so this weekend was my first big watch of him. Obviously Nolf had a great freshman campaign, but my vote would have gone to Bo for freshman of the year if I had a vote.

Agree! Tough call between the two, as they're both absolutely outstanding, but that kid is a blast to watch. Also, after Brunson made a fool of himself taunting the crowd after his match with Alex, I thoroughly enjoyed watching Bo pick him apart for an easy major while hardly breaking a sweat or even looking like he was trying.
He's a little like Ruth in his approach -- very loose, very relaxed, and just methodically destroys guys. Before you know it, he's up about 10, and you'd swear he'd just barely even started wrestling.

Very hard to imagine he won't be a 4 time national champ. It's pretty difficult to win 4 years but he has the tools.
I was busy disliking this kid because he wrestles for the enemy and he has a weird haircut 
Then I watched his interview after winning and darn him, he ruined the hate! He said his goal this weekend was to get the Hawkeye fans to cheer for him because he knows there are a lot of Iowa wrestling fans and they appreciate good wrestling. He won me over :/

I think a little of Bo's extra oomph in that match was caused by Brunson grabbing his junk twice to prevent throws in the dual. Nickal was on a mission.

If he liked the crowd so much, why didn't he come to Iowa......he could have enjoyed that for five years! Same with McIntosh--two non PA kids. Next mission...figure that out officially, not just on message board! No stone unturned and change the landscape of recruiting in our favor. Rant done...maybe.

Did TnT try? I hadn't heard. I'd think the wrestling world might see him as a bit of a risk, Texas champ? So what.
Then again he is undefeated vs Hall.

We also wanted iMar badly. Imagine the lineup but add those 2. or even 1 of them.
I still don't think we are out of this race this year but certainly are going to have to have either us over perform and or PSU under preform, probably both.
We have to up our recruiting game with these uber talents, but I don't think we are that far away. I also think if we had half the top level (Top 5/10 p4p) guys that PSU has in their lineup we beat them.

I don't know how deeply Iowa was involved. This is what he said about his recruitment in an article on BWI after he committed:
Prior to selecting the Nittany Lions, Nickal was seriously considering Oklahoma, but he also said that he had strong interest in Michigan, Ohio State and Oklahoma State.
But Penn State's recent winning streak, coaching reputation and a little help from one of the most well known Nittany Lions - David Taylor - helped put Penn State in the lead.
"I made it up there to State College [in May] and I really liked it," he said. "It was all over from there.
"It was pretty cool of [Taylor] showing us around. It's not everyday that you walk around and get to hang out with one of the best collegiate wrestlers in the country. So that was a good experience and I really liked that."

Some of the interviews were fantastic with the kids. Brooks has to be the number one, but IMar and Nickal were great also. IMar may have been on Flo. Most of these kids come off as classy and humble. I know they can get a little show boaty after a big win, but I guess we can overlook that if they are classy and funny in the interviews.
How the hell are we not getting some of these kids? Penn State isn't going to get all of them.
So look at the guys that finished ahead of Iowa wrestlers in the tournament. How is Iowa not getting those guys?
I agree. I liked Morgan McIntosh's interview. Sounds really humble and down to earth.
This to me is troubling, in the same way that we weren't on Hall's short list either. It's troubling if we weren't recruiting him hard enough, and it's troubling if we were but there was no mutual interest. PSU got Nickal and we got Paddock. That sums up in a single sentence why we aren't favored to win NCAAs this year.
Sure! Best fans in the country, would get to be a part of one the best wrestling programs in history (OSU and Iowa), great academic programs, one of the best college towns and would have WAY more fun with the Brands. Also would have increased his chances of making the World Team (ala two other Hawks!). Yes serious question!

Did not watch the entire tournament but from what I did see, Penn State unfortunately has too much firepower. Losing our HWT was a killer. Don't think Guilibon will fair as well, he really helped PSU. Why can't we find a good 141 lber?

No. Hall is redshirting.
Cenzo will go at 165 next year for us. Rasheed is moving up to 184, they hope the gas tank problem was due to the weight loss. I hope so too, but memories of Andrew Alton are still very fresh in my mind: Tank issues are not always simply due to weight pull.

For 25 consecutive years, like Iowa accomplished? Noooo. Both Big 10 and NCAA will be toss-ups between Iowa and PSU (and maybe Ohio St), starting next year - each school is loaded with studs. Going to be fun!

clears out a bit and IMar moves up. Still think Cutch stays their 84...they are down on him but he's injured and that affects the cardio. When he's on, he's top shelf similar to Brooks. Both don't have that consistency.
