Bo Nickal

Nolf & Nickal will dictate the PSU lineup next year. I tend to agree with AzChief and think they will be at the same weight, and then the rest of the lineup will fill around them - lots of permutations.

Nolf could put a crimp in this - especially if he wins the title this year - because there have been whispers that he is not as small as he looks at 157 AND his father is a big guy. If he goes 165, I would bet my house that Joseph will be at 157 with no issues. Nickal also could change things as he has international aspirations and has been trying to put on weight to better compete at 84kg - but so far he hasn't filled out (he was hampered a bit by illness this summer) and I would think he has another year at 174. Mark Hall and Mason Manville will most likely greyshirt.

I think McCutcheon will have to battle it out with Rasheed next year and I would think that McCutcheon has the edge at this time.

A while back I posted that Bo would be wrestling on Saturday night. Some were skeptics, some were not, one thing's for sure, all this lovin' up on him is making me a bit cranky. Sure he has that really cool Howdy doody haircut and his ears look like he could be a two time Olympian, but Hello, he still wears that blue singlet.

This to me is troubling, in the same way that we weren't on Hall's short list either. It's troubling if we weren't recruiting him hard enough, and it's troubling if we were but there was no mutual interest. PSU got Nickal and we got Paddock. That sums up in a single sentence why we aren't favored to win NCAAs this year.

Fan support is the biggest reason why they would come to Iowa.

I've said it before but for a kid like Nickal or Hall, the way things are going right now they shouldn't come to Iowa. Penn St clearly does a much better job developing wrestlers with a variety of dynamic attacks. Guys like Quentin Wright, Ruth, Taylor, Nolf, Nickal and Mcintosh(to a lesser degree). I hate it but those guys are fun to watch and look like they are having fun out there.

We get grinders. Nothing wrong with being a grinder but it is certainly a lot harder way to win a match. When is the last time we had a guy who can score in a wide variety of ways the way Nickal and Nolf do? Cory Clark is the only one on our team right now who can really go get a takedown when he needs one against elite competition, and has some dynamic attacks.

Will be interesting to see what the lineup for Penn St looks like when you throw Mark Hall in there. Nolf, Nickal, Mccutcheon, Joseph, Retherford, Morelli, Rasheed and Hall all in the middle weight range. I think it makes the most sense for everyone to go up and to slide Hall in at 74.

Huh? Are we talking about the same Cory Clark who is so confident in his dynamic attack that he refused to let his opponent up in the NC STate meet & settled for a regular decision when the team needed bonus points? Corys a grinder, if you were right he'd be a td release guy like Gilman, not a td armbar looking for a fall guy.

Yeah, but its a sweet arm bar.
