Board meltdown

Yeah, we are a women's sports school, no argument there.

I have to disagree. We won't ever be a blue blood, I don't think any modern team can be a blue blood anyway. I disagree about not having the ability to be a really good team. We have shown we can be there and have regressed since. The defense has been really good and the offense has actually been better. I do think we can do better and now that we are out of the playoffs this year so it doesn't matter (it does but you know what I mean). Iowa used to compete in these games and no longer do. While it's unrealistic to win every game, it's extremely frustrating to play close games against teams we should beat or blow games against teams like Iowa St.

Where people want to see change is to have:
- better clock management
- take REASONABLE risks
- treat all players the same, including QBs
- don't play "not to lose"
- make fair and honest evaluations of your staff memebers and not make excuses.
- Don't hire family members.

Kirk does a lot of things right but he has just not been able to adjust going forward.

It's a message board and people are going to vent so that they don't ruin the days of those actually around them. I don't think this is even a meltdown.
I appreciate the reasonable response. I understand that this is a place to vent, it’s the fact that we have so many different threads basically stating the same sentiment. Why do we need so many?

If we somehow got the right coach and had a lucrative NIL fund, then yes, we could be very competitive in this new era of college athletics. Will that ever happen though? I’m not holding my breath.

Not a single Hawk fan expected a win today.

But most expected a better effort.

It's pretty clear Cade isn't mobile, doesn't have a strong arm, and doesn't have a competent OLine in front of him.
That's a recipe for disaster with an immobile QB.

THAT'S WHAT FANS ARE PISSED ABOUT.

Thanks for the clarification. The 20 other threads about it didn’t quite capture it the way you did. Well done!

You should do a little research. Go back to Evy and the '50s when CFB was modernizing and programs were developing their bloodlines. Iowa was right there w/ the best of them for a decade. And then....powers that be lost the vision.
You should look at what Evy did as AD. He did more to destroy our standing in the CFB world then he did to elevate it.

Iowa wouldn't have had any standing in CFB after WW2 and prior to Fry if it weren't for Evy.

Good night fellas, hope everyone sleeps well tonight and your hangovers aren’t too terrible. I’ve got a side job I’m working on tomorrow, so I need a good nights sleep.

tO$U should not be a far superior team to Iowa. Nor Michigan, Penn St, Iowa State, Tennessee,.....
Iowa State? Far superior? Go off the deep end did ya? They just beat Iowa by ONE point in a game we controlled for their 2nd win in the last 7 or 8 times? Far superior? Really? How today played out sucks, absolutely, BUT OSU and Michigan ARE far superior to Iowa, and Illinois, and Minnesota, Wisconsin, etc.... etc... etc...thats just what it is. Thats where the $$$$ is. The portal and NIL have only added to their war chest. Did you listen at all to what Danielson was saying about their whole star studded roster came back, and then they added numerous top transfers? Its a PRO team dude. And Iowa, and the others are going to compete with that HOW exactly? Michigan we could compete with this season. And before people throw Indiana and Rutgers in there they got the benefit of not have all the east powers on there schedule, at least not yet. Rutgers doesn't play OSU or Michigan, or PSU this year.

And thats all fine. The first half went about as well as could be expected We had a 0-7 game and then Kirk pulled that fake punt/ timeout mess. Still 0-7 and the half. The two quick turnovers leading to quick scores ended the game in the third.

#1 Alabama lost
#4 Tennessee lost
#9 Missouri lost
#10 Michigan lost
#11 USC lost
#22 Louisville lost
#25 UNLV lost

Going into this game I thought Iowa had to play flawless and OSU had to give us some gifts. Only down 7 at the half gave me some confidence. The 3rd quarter ended that. Losing by 28 stinks.

But the chances of a win were small. They are small for anyone on OSU's schedule. On to Washington. I don't see anything on our schedule that isn't at least toss up on on the rest of our schedule. But when it comes to Iowa sports I'm a half full guy.

I'd say we we're in agreement We were in the game at the half because we were able to be close in TOP and limit OSU's chances with the ball. That all ended with the 2 quick turnovers in the third on short fields..

missing a standard FG and missing what really looked like a pass that 90% of qbs would've hit for a TD were somewhat inexcusable in a big game (for us). the two blatant jobs on spots (giving osu a first down after review and screwing us on our conversion) led to their only first half td as well. thing is if my aunt had balls, the first half could've ended 10-0 in our favor easily before we got isu-ed in the second half.

Just think of what kind of a team we could put together with 16 million more dollars? OSU 20 million Iowa 4 million. ‘Oh thats not that much difference!

That 16 more 1 million dollar athletes to put on the field.

Look at OSU. How many of the starters today were transfers from other schools(and were the top athletes at their old school) just in the last year? I'm not as informed as many but the QB, RB, Safety just to name the ones I know right now without looking it up.

Guys coaching is part of it to be sure but there are only so many unheralded guys we can develop per year into top talent. The top schools are plug and play.

Sorry to keep beating this horse but watching that game today it was hard to not see the obvious talent deficit we faced.

After losing to a far superior team. Lol!
Fire everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never change delusional fans, pure comedy.
Let's fast-forward.

We go 10-2. Don't make the CFP because it's gonna be a log jam and we were embarrassed in our 2 losses (because yes losing to ISU is an embarrassment in the eyes of the national voters).

Hurray, we make the Outback or Citrus Bowl and lose to some ranked SEC team, or maybe we eek out an ugly win over a depleted SEC team that doesn't want to be there and has half it's roster opt out of the bowl game.

"What does it all mean, Basil".gif

Who gives a f***.........it does nothing for us. You need to understand how our perception is being affected when it comes to these Gen A recruits, and I know you're not taking that into account.

Also, anything worse than 10-2 is an embarrassment for this program considering what we returned and wanted to accomplish coming into the season, so trying to paint a positive light on anything less than 10-2 is an attempt to be argumentatively optimistic for the sake of being argumentatively optimistic....................

Just stop it and let us f***ing move on from Kirk and deal with whatever happens to the program for the next few years. Enough al-f***ing-ready.

Thank you.

Those top 11 upsets all were road losses. There is little difference between the other two teams and their opponents.
Except Vandy over Bama. That ones a shocker. All my Mizzou friends expected their loss at some point. Most of them thought the Tigers have been over rated all season.

Evil, I hear you. Like most here I think a change is needed at the top. Its just time for some new blood. It needs to happen, but probably won't as we've discussed. My only issue is the people who think were ever really going to compete with the OSU's of the game in the current climate. I'm not saying we couldn't pull an upset once in awhile, (would be great to even get back to that). I'm just saying actually competing on a regular basis. I don't care who we hire as HC, it will take some major changes on the current system for Iowa to compete with those teams, when in reality we've NEVER really competed on a year to year basis even before this mess which only widened the gap for the "haves".

In fairness, I have been saying this shit for a while now. It’s just more Iowa fans are starting to get on my level.

😝
Today you looked into the father of NIL/Open Portal college football. You will increasingly have better defined “haves” and “have nots” as the $$ sorts things out. This is no longer “capitalistic” football….two years ago college football has made a move towards “monopolistic” football. There will be certain schools that will do well in this environment and schools that will be fodder for those who are successful. Today we saw where UIowa’s destiny lies.
College football is slowly cannibalizing itself. (Maybe not so “slowly”…)

I don’t agree.

O$U has always gotten the cream of the crop. This is nothing new. If anything, NIL allows for schools like Iowa to land a few more bigger fish than they would have otherwise gotten.

Iowa gets blown out in games against teams with elite talent because Kirk Ferentz has refused to evolve. Look at what happened yesterday with so many upsets. Don’t tell me programs like Iowa can’t be more competitive against elite teams. Yes, of course Iowa will lose the vast majority of those games—they always have. Right now, though, the issue is Iowa isn’t remotely competitive in matchups against top teams because of Kirk’s stubborn refusal to abandon what worked in the 2000s but what doesn’t work in 2024.

Kirk Ferentz and Iowa football are the embodiment of insanity. That’s the issue, not NIL.

It is all comedy. Someone thinking they know the appropriate level of response on a discussion board is also funny.

Wait. You didn't watch much of the game and are coming on here to rip the people who are mad that did watch it?

Is this where we are now?

Dude, we played much better than I thought we would on offense. Worse on defense. The turnovers were the killers along with really wimpy decisions.
One garbage time td vs backups was much better than you thought on offense?😆 I mean I get why having low expectations is warranted in year 26 of ferentz offensive is warranted but damn. I guess that is where we are

You’re no better than the maniacs that want to burn it all to the ground. Reasonable fans are sick of getting embarrassed against ranked teams. It’s a legitimate complaint, and if you don’t agree you’re full of shit.
Yep.

I’ll be back watching and rooting for the Hawks next Saturday but yesterdays performance was pretty frustrating to watch.

I’ll leave it at that…

Oh for sure my expectations were low. I am not sure we had 200 yards of offense against Penn St. and Michigan combined last year. I'm sure I'm wrong but it felt that way.

We got the ball on their side of the field 5 times. Resulted in 7 points. That is pretty awful but we made it to their side.

Even if we had $16M more in NIL to offer, Kirk would not recruit the top guys. He would not build an offense where we would use them. He is not the answer moving forward. You can see the difference that Tim has brought to the offense. If Kirk would of had it his way, we would still have his ass hole son. Kirk is an anchor for this program.
