Bonus Envy

Out of all of the complaints of his contract, this one should be at the very bottom. I, for one, think that a place like Iowa should logically have a much higher bonus structure than the places you compare. KF just did something as coach not equaled in a century.

I see almost no situation where huge bonuses for things like: undefeated, coach of the year, big ten champion, national champion, etc. to ever be "not worth it", just by getting to these goals brings in way more money to the program. Even on a down attendance year.

Kirk has $1.85 million at risk, based on performance at the highest of levels in his profession.

Compare and contrast this with our friend, Colin Cowherd, who brags about how his opinion and actions are never influenced by advertisers because his contract is guaranteed - no incentives based on ratings or ad buys. Essentially, no risk.

Yet, he has continually hammered Iowa about not taking risk in their scheduling the past 20 years and effectively has dismissed the Hawks in favor of the blue bloods / name brands who can afford to take incremental scheduling risks because the value of their brand can effectively launch them over and past loss in an early season game versus another 'brand' team...and vice-versa. This is also know as 'the good 'ol boys club'.

Completely hypocritical on Colin's part..and should show you exactly the low-character personality we're dealing with.

I continue to be amazed at how far under the skin of some Hawk fans this Colin Cowherd guy has burrowed. It seems there is never a topic or post that does not trigger a foaming at the mouth reaction from them.

You need to understand Cowherd.

He's a creative guy, and drove his staff and peers @ ESPN nuts because he was always looking to take a sports angle and tie it to a societal one. That's his bend. His angle. And most of those working with him didn't/couldn't appreciate it.

Iowa fans challenged him and he looked for creative ways to respond...he's got 3 hours a day to fill and is ALWAYS looking for a fresh - HOT - take.

Every time he talks about Iowa he most often relates it back to something societal - in hopes that a larger audience can relate to it.

On the contrary, his arch-rival Dan Patrick seeks to peel back the layers of the onion - always wanting to go deeper and stay in context - yet willing to color a little bit outside of the lines.

They are polar opposites - yet both do a great job in serving their respective audiences.

It's not that complex.
