Bosa Targeting Play

Yep — about as blatant as cheap shots get. Also about as stupid as cheap shots get. There wasn’t much chance of seriously injuring Stanley, but it looked awful and was obviously not remotely close to any sort of “football move”. It could only be interpreted as targeting, and dirty targeting at that. It’s hard to imagine that any football player with an IQ over 10 could possibly think that was a good idea. Was glad to see he got exactly what he deserved.

Disagree. Thought Bosa's hit was a football play. Conversely, I thought OSU #35 was cheap shot. That was the play in the 1st Q where he layed out the receiver and got the pf penalty. That dude should have been tossed. Bosa, not so much.

You serious Clark ?
Bosa launched himself with the crown of his helmet without question ! Not sure what play you were watching but pretty much everyone in every highlight show said the same thing .

Bosa was tossed and deserved to be. #35 also should have been tossed as that was a cheap shot and a flat out dirty ass play. Fortunately, he simply wasn't good enough and gave up lots if plays to Iowa today, so I wad glad he remained in the game.

It was a stupid play by Bosa and absolutely called correctly. There were a lot of intimidation type hits from the OSU defense. Lots of trash talking going on.

... and the Hawks hung 55 on them. The Hawks should be not only proud of how they performed but how they did it.

From OSU's perspective, this play was beyond stupid. I thought it was representative of OSU's approach to the game. "We're playing lowly Iowa, we shouldn't have to compete today. If they make it hard, we'll start cheating."

It was the correct call. Bosa wanted to make an impact shot and it would've been legal had he not hit helmet to helmet as the hit would not have been considered late.

But it was the fact that Bosa stuck his head forward and basically headbutted Stanley, with no other part touching him, that drew the flag.

It wasn't a vicious hit, but by the letter of the rule it was the right call.....and a really stupid play by Bosa.

That was a frustration penalty drawn by the OL. They played awesome today
I think you're right. As bad as they've played all season, I think Bosa thought he was gonna run them over. Hell, I thought the OSU DL was gonna run us over. But the truth is, it's been the over loaded box and blitzes that have killed this offense. OSU played it straight up on D. Mistake on their part.

I hate OSU I love Iowa and yes by the book that was a targeting penalty and the call was made correctly but...

Both players were moving forward and yes Bosa left his feet to get close to Stanley but I wouldn't say he launched himself or label it a dirty play ...just like in basketball if you leave your feet bad things are going to happen I didn't see anything dirty at all .

Call confirmed is all I heard.

I went back and watched the #35 play and i definitely thought it was dirty and unsportsmanlike. But it was no where near targeting. #35 did not use any forceful contact to the head/neck area. Bosa clearly did.

I felt like it was a weak call, but it was the rule. Bosa knows the rule. I could say I feel bad, but I look back on Wadley losing a TD. This time the shoe was on the other foot.

Hate the call. Didn't think it was an intentional cheap shot. Bosa was looking to bat the ball down. Ejection for that is weak sauce.

A smaller QB is on the ground after that hit. Only thing that makes it remotely a discussion was Nate's ability to take the hit. Was it hyper-violent? No, but doesn't appear to change the intent.

The hit was dumb, unnecessary, not that forceful, but sure looked intentional. The call by the refs was absolutely correct. Remember, they’re trying to save football by eliminating unnecessary hits to the head. This is a textbook example of that. Hopefully Bosa will learn not to do this again in the future because he’s a decent player otherwise.

Also, someone mentioned him looking like a Flipper jumping out of the water. Nice joke.

You have to believe the #35 cheap shot and the ridiculously stupid Bosa head butt play were signs of frustration showing very early in the game. OSU probably expected to walk-in and throttle us. It was apparent early that it was not going to be easy.

the best part of Bosa's cheap shot, other than him getting tossed, was that it was weak.

then why didn't he have his hands up? He wasn't trying to bat the ball. He left his feet in a direct path to the QB's face. It doesn't get any more textbook than that.

Wasn't incidental contact in any way. You don't lean forward and headbutt a guy if you're legit trying to knock down a ball.

Can't believe so many hawks defending a guy that the entire national media and even the OSU fans agree should have been tossed.
