Boston Celtics President Brad Stevens on Beth Goetz: "They better name her the Full Time AD. She's as good as it gets."

I would be very surprised if she turns out to be better than Gary Barta.

Well, Barta probably will never be topped when it comes to this list of "achievements":

* not documenting poor performance, where it ended up with Iowa getting sued for discrimination, instead. Iowa then paid out $6.5 million to a former administrator (Jane Meyer) and her partner, the field hockey coach

* fudging numbers when it came to Title IX, resulting in a federal law suit, where Iowa had to not only add back women's swimming but add women's wrestling

* other scandals: former Iowa football players lawsuit cost us millions; current gambling scandal

We know she had NIL up and running on Day 1 when she was the Athletic Director at Ball State. @Tx_Hawk, CEO of SWARM, has to like that.

And this is a pretty good endorsement, coming from Brad Stevens.

The story from the Gazette:

What did they have set up "day 1" for someone to make up such a claim?

I didn't make anything up, Tyler. I said she had NIL up and running on Day 1 when she was the Athletic Director at Ball State. And that's 100% correct. It is what Todd Brommelkamp reported, which everyone can see below, where Todd also attached an article about it.

It's pretty clear it's you who is making shit up.

That's what I was looking for, where their paths crossed.

Globalhawk posted above she was the associate AD when Brad was at Butler.

Does she have a husband and kids or not? Barta was a good donor money guy. He related to boosters. If she doesn't have husband and kids, this will fail as the donors are old people.

Listened to a podcast interview with Beth via embedded link in the Gazette article.

Came away impressed. Midwest upbringing. Played collegiate soccer. Said she misses coaching. Built great relationships every place she has been.

Nice kudos from Brad Stevens and Gino A (UConn)…

She sounds grounded and relatable. Very important aspects in any job.

Yes, she will be responsible for hiring Kirk and Fran’s replacements some day - which will ultimately determine her “success,” but I like what she had to say and hearing about her background and what attracted her to Iowa.

Give it a listen …

Did anyone else find the timing of Gary Barta announcing his retirement and the USMNT announcing the re-hiring of Gregg Berhalter extremely suspicious? Paying a consulting firm to take 6 months to find a new coach and reh-hiring the last guy has to be about the most Barta move ever at that scale?

She will be as good as her football coaching hire.

Period.

That’s what matters in big time power conference sports. You nail that, you can F’ up a lot of other things and people will look past it.

You botch the football hire and nobody will care about anything else.

True. After the 45 year (+) run of Hayden and KFz, that'll be a high pressure hire.

That said, she seems to have all the goods to be an excellent AD. She understands how to get things done (as evidenced by the project she pushed through at BSU and her immediate uptake of NIL) and she still thinks like a coach.

Lots of truth here. Football is the cash cow…

I thought Wisconsin might eventually screw up & hire the wrong person.

After Barry Alvarez:

Bret Bielema
Gary Anderson
Paul Chryst
Luke Fickell

Hindsight is 20/20, but the Lick hire would be classified as a horrific hire where people will probably never look past it and the damage that one hire (and 3 years) did.

A lot of people think LeVar Woods should be the next head coach
