Woods looks to be a great young(er) coach on the rise. He draws lots of praise from both within and outside of the program. His main drawback is no HC experience. That's a tough one to overcome moving into a P5 HC position.
The lack of a quick firing was far worse than the actual hire. Lick was pretty highly regarded at that point and most thought it was a great move.
I'd rather have someone that isn't a "Yes" person; that would have possibly kept BF from being OC.

I like to think of it more like a Hayden Fox-Howard Burley thing from Coach when Hayden would yell and bang his coat rack off the ceiling to summon Howard to come speak to him. I doubt Bartas office was above Kirks, but I still laugh a little inside when I think of those scenes from the show.
I’ll take an AD with a strong, aggressive, modern vision with less experience over a dinosaur with all the experience of days gone by.

She will head the search, but there will be a committee to get administration, regent and academic buy in. The committee will certainly work with a search firm.
"Committee" is an ugly word here because it likely caused Iowa to lose Stoops.
Was going to post this, we basically lost stoops because of that. I would have much preferred him over ferentz.
I would love to see an alternate universe where Stoops was hired instead of KF so we could compare the results.

In my opinion, he would have achieved much more very quickly. With that said, he probably would have been stolen away at some point by a blue blood, but like you said, would love to see the “alternate timeline”
Hindsight is 20/20 but even if Iowa had been more aggressive do you think they would still have gotten him? Oklahoma would have come back with contract that Iowa would not have been able to match. Does Stoops take the lower salary to coach at Iowa at that time? I'm not saying he would or wouldn't have, I don't know.
