Bowl Game Prep

What in the heck is going on? Iowa is trending down in bowls, as we have not only lost the last several. We haven't really been in a bowl since the 2010 Insight Bowl.

Losing Norm was huge. Phil has done an abysmal job prepping our defense for these bowls.

Since our most recent bowl game win...

2011 vs Oklahoma: Lost the game when we saw what the front of the opponent's uniforms said
2013 vs LSU: Awful game to watch; didn't make enough offensive plays to actually win the game
2014 vs Tennessee: Didn't show up (fans nor players) in one of the two lowest points of the Ferentz era
2015 vs Stanford: Didn't show up; couldn't stop the deserved Heisman winner who had something to prove; couldn't shake the black cloud of the MSU loss

It's almost as if the "surprise" nature of the team doing well against other teams this year was perhaps partially due to many of them not taking Iowa as seriously in preparing for Iowa, and perhaps the team getting used to that, and towards the end, both MSU and Stanford probably prepared for Iowa a lot more than other teams during the season. I'm guessing that Stanford studied their game against Northwestern VERY heavily and Northwestern's against Iowa as well, to be better prepared for Iowa's different formations, etc. than other teams had earlier in the year.

What also seemed weird to me were so many times that Stanford ilne jumped on defense toward Iowa's offense and almost seemed to PROVOKE movement on Iowa's line so that they would get a lot of judgements in their favor for line movement penalties that were rather frequent in the game. If Iowa had been better prepared, I bet a lot of those would have just been off-sides calls against Stanford if they'd stood their ground more. It felt that Stanford had seen something like that in game tapes that made them feel they could get away with stuff like that.

I'm torn on this...I firmly believe that Kirk and Co got caught in the perfect storm after last year. So they go back to the drawing board and reapproach everything, except with the Rose Bowl, they have appearances and other obligations that they normally would not have with say, the Outback. I want to believe that this year was a bit of an anomaly only because they have had no previous experience with the attention(Disney and etc)

I don't know.

This. And it sucks because Ferentz needs to go by firing or retiring. These collapses are becoming routine. Losing is one thing but absolute surrenders???? Inexcusable.
