bingo... elon has made a career at making promises/deadlines that he can't keep and people then tripping over themselves to give him money.

Based on what i'm seeing, DOGE is not a government department. It's only an advisory committee/board. They do nothing except perhaps submit reports to actual government who i assume can trash the advice if they see fit. Finally, this committee dissovles latest by July 4, 2026. To summarize, the two bros most likely send quarterly advisory reports for 6 quarters and then go on their merry way. People are taking this far more seriously than necessary. It's even possible trump allowed doge as a vanity thank you for elon and vivek's help without having to take them on in serious government roles.

Can’t believe I am saying it, but it is actually a pretty smart move by trump. Kind of a win/win. Lots of us have been talking about all the government bloat out that there. Why not give it a shot?
They are more advisory. If I had to guess, knowing people and whatnot, it will be used more as a mouth piece to create dissent around spending that they want to cut. Especially because one of the fellas owns a whole damn social media. They will have to employ a metric shitton of people to unpack government spending, I am going to guess that lawyers with corporate ties will be doing a lot of the heavy lifting here.
I think this new position is the give Musk fat government contracts.
I live the idea of looking into govt spending and posting the results for all to see.

Wouldn't surprise me if Elon holds an ongoing poll with details so the people decide which ones should be addressed first. Cross them off as they go. Show progress so we never go back to paying for stupid shit. Nor use them as leverage for unrelated bills. It's about time.

So I don't like the idea of Elon and his conflict of interest issues running this. I think Vivek is trouble as well, but I do like parts of the idea of DOGE. You hit on one here that I think could be built into a solid proposition. That is the transparency aspect and the ideas of gathering ideas from the public. Some form of crowdsourcing to get ideas isn't all bad. I do question if the public has the data or insight to really drive exposure, but let's see where that goes. The thing you hit on that's best is perhaps the leverage to keep some of the unnecessary expenses will be dropped with something like this because it might be harder to do a trade off to keep it.

It really is ridiculously awesome. I don’t know how anyone who’s not a direct beneficiary of the bloat can’t love this. It should be and ultimately will have bi-partisan support once it gets rolling. The unfortunate thing for Democrats is they’ll likely fight it until it costs them the next election.
Yeah. Certainly something to watch. Trump hasn't earned any benefit of the doubt, so we shall see. However, I will probably be watching for more cutting of regulations that affect him and his business. We shall see.

If what they are saying and proposing is true and works they way they are saying it will, it's a great thing and I really don't see how anyone could say otherwise. However, I would say there are plenty of reasons why people would remain skeptical. I will believe it when I see it with cautious optimism. Trump has earned zero benefit of the doubt IMO.
Cutting waste is great. If anyone knows how this will work other than stripping programs and expenditures out of Trump’s proposed budget I’m interested.

Of course I have. Both sides are guilty of needless “pork” projects for their districts. That’s exactly why any representative of both sides of the aisle haven’t made a serious effort at controlling the debt and why this should be celebrated by the constituents!
