Brady Berge

So I'm not special?

You'll always be special bro

Obviously I'm wearing black and gold glasses, but that photo that was posted awhile back of Berge wearing a Iowa shirt while enjoying a frozen dessert, screams two things:
1) He wants to be a Hawk
2) He's hasn't started his 149 lb cut quite yet.

Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue, Penn State, Nebraska is his top 5. Sounds like he wants to wrestle 149 in college. Great replacement for BS. Believe he is committing on Flo's announcement show signing day in November. Any truth that he was in Iowa City last weekend?
Wait a minute. PURDUE ???

I don't know how good Parriot is, but he lost a snoozer in OT to Manville in his home gym versus the Dream Team. Place was rocking when he came out. In fairness to Parriot, not only is Manville very good defensively, but he also didn't make weight, so Parriot was likely facing a guy who was quite a bit heavier for that particular match.

How much of a "huge recruit" Parriot is I wouldn't venture a guess, but Ersland certainly appears to be getting Purdue on the right track, and good for him being able to do so.

Berge obviously has choices. Former teammate Stoll is at Iowa, brother at Minny, purported "pal" Parriot at Purdue. Always many factors in these decisions, money, chance to make the lineup, distance from home, etc. We shall see I guess.

I could be totally off base here, but I gotta imagine these HS recruits have something in common with us message board mopes in that they look at rosters of potential suitors, and see where they would fit in on those rosters. Berge was at 160 his Junior year and 152 his Sophomore year. When I read the Flo interview where he said he was dropping back down to 152 for his Senior year and then planned on wrestling 149 in college, I saw that as tell tale sign that he was thinking Hawkeyes. He knows that the Hawks are loaded at 157 and 165 for the next couple years and that Brandon will be gone after his (Berge's) redshirt year. Him at 149, and assuming Warner and Murin come aboard as well, sets up a dream team type lineup for the Hawks for 2018-19:
125 Spencer Lee RS FR
133 Justin Mejia/Max Murin RS FR/RS FR
141 Jason Renteria/Vince Turk/Carter Happel/Murin RS FR/JR/SO/RS FR
149 Brady Berge RS FR
157 Michael Kemmerer JR
165 Alex Marinelli SO
174 Kaleb Young SO
184 Jacob Warner RS FR
197 Steven Holloway JR
HWT Sam Stoll SR

With basically the same formula again for the next year replacing Stoll with Bradley. Best Hawkeye lineup ever? That looks like back to back championships to me!

Go Hawks!!!!!

I gotta figure Fix, Berge, Warner, O'Connor, and Singletary all have there choice narrowed down to two schools and some of them may already know where they are going. Flo is putting together a really cool show in November for these kids commitments. Each kid coming out with top 5 is good promoting for the show and it builds suspense and interest from different school fan bases. I figure Berge is down to three schools (Iowa, PSU, Minny)

Minny has the home state advantage, brother on the team, and great coaching. If Stroker stays at Minny and at 49 then Berge could have a hard time getting into lineup there. Same could be said with Early at 57.

PSU has the great coaching, training partners, and a winning team. Berge would fill in at 49 after Zain graduates. Nick and Joe Lee would be around that weight also during the same time but I don't think they would be a problem for Berge. Far from home could be a minus.

Iowa has great coaches, training partners, and a winning team also. It's closer to home. Guys in the room with Minny ties ( Berthow, Dardanes brothers, Rutt, and former teammate and close friend Sam Stoll). Berge would also fill in for BS after he graduates.

Don't think he could go wrong with either three here. Hopefully he bleeds black and gold!

. Having watched Brady up close at sections he is built better than most collegiate wrestlers now no body fat , can't see him at 49 in 2 seasons let alone 3.

Unless you see 9 or more Big Ten Champs in there, the answer would be no.

Obviously I have not seen him up close, just taking the kid as his word. He does appear to be very solidly built. Most on here hoped he was bulking up to be a future 174/184.

I agree with most of this, but if Berge is worrying about whether he can beat out Freddy Stroker, I'm not sure he's Hawkeye material. I think Berge is a level above Stroker. Berge is a top 10 P4P recruit right now. His stock may well rise as the season progresses.

I don't think Berge is worried about anyone, but I think you underestimate how good Stroker really is.

I clocked one of Freddys HS double legs at 35mph. Truth
Couldn't get accurate reads on singles.
Edit added
JB justbusiness came in 38-39 in Olympics.
I'll have to go back and check for sure.

Alright, how about most depth ever? Huh? Huh? Any takers? Seriously though, look at 141! That's a lot of state champs all potentially vying for one spot.
I don't want to rain on your parade, but that's a whole lot of wishful thinking, IMO. You're dealing with hypothetical's based on mostly H.S. rankings versus proven College commodities. That's a tough road to hoe even for the rosiest of pictures.

Or perhaps you're underestimating the strength from top to bottom of several of those Gable teams. There have always been a ton of State Champs that never sniffed Carver Hawkeye in a dual meet.

Another problem is that Iowa has had arguably the most dominant kick-ass teams of all time on several occasions. 5 Champs and 7 Finalists in Cedar Falls, 9 Big Ten Champs, etc. Those types of things are hard to say we're ever going to see anything like it again. Recent history says not likely, as we're lucky to get one these days.

Now, based on High School rankings you may have a point, and I am definitely not going to research High School rankings for all of Iowa's former wrestlers on their great teams, of which there are many. There were definitely times if you weren't of bona-fide All-American caliber you sat on the bench. Period. We've obviously not had that problem for quite some time.

Whether your hypothetical team reaches those lofty heights or not is certainly not a given, and I would say highly unlikely. Unfortunately.

But I've been wrong before, so you have that going for you....................;)

I have no doubt that Freddy is a tough kid and is extremely talented. Assuming his development isn't hindered by what's going on in Minnie right now he's going to have a great career with the gophers. I am just higher on Brady. I bet if you asked the Hawkeye coaching staff, they'd say the same thing.

I know rankings don't mean much, but Berge is currently ranked #8 P4P. Stroker was the #20 overall recruit at the end of his Senior year. Obviously, not the end all be all, but certainly something to be considered.

Check out Berge absolutely dominating multiple OR state champ Layne Vananrooy (currently ranked # 5 at 160). Vananrooy looks like the Hulk and Thor had a baby!

Mostly tongue in cheek bro, with a bit of wishful thinking. I'm pumped about this class and would like you to have to change your screen name every year for the next couple years!

I'm not arguing with. Berge is a hammer and I hope he's a hawk. Stroker may have been# 20 but look the guys ahead of him. The 2015 class top 20 is more impressive as a whole then the 2017 IMO. I believe Stroker was in P4P his senior year also.

Everyone knows the Hulk and Thor couldn't have a baby.

Would be a great fit for Brady to slide in at 149. I must admit, it's not what I expected when I first got excited about him leaning toward the Hawks. I was thinking he might grow into a beast of a 184 -- a far cry from 149, but I'll take him either way! Needless to say, he'd be a tremendous addition to the lineup.

BTW, I guess I could handle Warner at 184. That would work. . . .

Folks, before we get too excited I can tell you other coach's are focusing on/paying more attention to Berge than M* currently is. Let's hope M* isn't putting too much stock in all the connections to Iowa with Berge.

Another M* hater. If Iowa lands Berge or not I'm sure the coaching staff has done all they can to get him to Iowa City.

Definitely not. I just have a disallusion that passing along information might help. Not looking for a pissing match in the slightest, but the staff isn't currently doing all they can, no. Do they know more than me, definitely.

Thanks for the info. We all have the choice to believe you or not . I don't see anything malicious with your information. I have shared inside information that I wouldn't do again due to certain posters attacking it. Just because they don't have information doesn't mean others don't as well. I trust the staff to be spending the time where they need to.

There aren't many posters I'll blindly trust with info they provide, but Gobblin is certainly one of them. If he's feeling pretty confident about BB, then that's all I need to hear. My take: other staffs currently feel the need to play catch up and are doing all they can to try to sway him their way. It'll be too little, too late!

I guess there is always a chance that Kemdawg drops back down to 149 if Berge can't make it....and those are the 2 best guys for those weights.. 2 years away..

Let's get him on board first. Jaime, remember Schaller pop corn days. Was roughin

I was thinking more like IMart, Tomasello, Martin, Snyder, etc., but thanks for the info...........................

You think Nato holds 125 and beats Lee? Which of those guys wrestle 157 and beats Nolf? Who beats Hall? Those are a few of my issues with your reply, but thanks.
