The numbers are in.

The University of Iowa athletic department received an astonishing 54,831 requests for Rose Bowl tickets, the school confirmed Friday. More than 23,000 of those requests were fulfilled exclusively to donors, season ticket holders and students. Ticket prices ranged from $150-185.

No requests from the general public were granted because of the high demand. Student season ticket holders received 100 percent of their requests.

Iowa (12-1) will make its first appearance in the Rose Bowl since 1991, heightening the call for fans who want to attend the game. The fifth-ranked Hawkeyes play No. 6 Stanford (11-2) at 4 p.m. Jan. 1 in Pasadena, Calif.

Stanford, meanwhile, was given about 30,000 tickets and sold all of its allotment. The Rose Bowl's capacity is 92,542.

Despite the buzz, ticket prices on the secondary market are dropping into a more normal range. As of Friday afternoon, the cheapest ticket on StubHub was $190, a sharp contrast to almost two weeks ago when tickets stretched from $620 to upwards of $10,000.

Scouting Stanford: Iowa's Rose Bowl foe efficient, explosive

Amen ... The cost of everything associated with attending the Rose Bowl was a turn off. Despite the Rose Bowl being on my bucket list, couldn't justify spending that much money for a 3-day trip. No way ... I went to Ireland 5 years ago for 9 days and the cost of that trip was about what I would have spent on 3-days in Pasadena ...

Yep, it'd be nice to go - but ~$2200 for the wife and I's airfare and game tickets is something I just can't justify. That $2200 is airfare and a full week of all inclusive at a nice Caribbean resort for us. To each his own, priorities are different for everybody

I have heard that from a surprising amount of people. Has to be the loss, and the way they lost, right?

That might play into it. It was a nice experience but not worth repeating for me. And now being older (50's) I don't have much ambition to attend live events. I'd rather stay home next the fireplace with a scotch and watch football and stream D1 wrestling when I can.

I thought about this too, my final conclusion was this might be the only chance I get to take my son to the Rose bowl to see Iowa play. Can't pass that up.

I went to 1982 Rose Bowl. I would do it again in a minute.
Rental cars are cheap. Gas is cheap. Hotels outside Pasadena can be cheap.
Tickets are obviously a priority, the rest are choices.
