***Breaking News; Senator Bob Menendez accused of taking bribes to help Qatari royalty family.***

Why isn't Mitch McConnell demanding action? Chuck Grassley's aides haven't pointed him towards a camera so he can mumble out words expressing outrage and how the Senate he so dearly loves has been tainted. Ted Cruz hasn't made a trip to DC to express his indignation.

No they would have to vote to expel him. Who voted for what is public record, they would have a hard time explaining that vote to anyone on either side.

As for the NJ governor I wasn't aware of that but forcing him to name a replacement does put him in a predicament. Naming his wife to the job looks corrupt AF. But anyone else he names would have a leg up on his wife in the primary.
This is an easy one. Put some 80 year old dem in place.

I've never said they always do the right thing
This quote from you almost exactly one year ago did not age well:

"Yet the Republican leaders won't replace him (Santos). Democrats would kick him out or not even let him near the House. Another difference between the 2 parties."

-- Tom Paris, 1/4/2023

but they certainly are FAR better than Republicans - proven over the last 5 years, bigly.
Can you cite some examples?

He can't see the hypocrisy. It's a waste of time...

This is hardly "Breaking News"

It's not "breaking news" that Menendez is slime. But his dealings with the Qatari royal family were just made public last night.

This is hardly "Breaking News"

.

These allegations are involving a new country, Qatar.

Unless I'm missing something the previous allegations involved the government of Egypt.

Senator Menendez seems to be taking bribes from multiple foreign governments.

@lucas80 no Pepsi.

To be fair it sounds like only one Dem in the senate has called for his ouster. That would be fetterman. The rest have mostly just gone with talks about it being very serious and due process.

I can back the idea of due process but the senate needs to do it's own investigation and recommend his removal. Don't hide behind the courts and wait for them to convict him.
That would be intellectually consistent.

No he/she might still win a primary. The other solution is picking an incompetent buffoon but then that reflects poorly on you.

You would need someone probably loyal to you and your wife who would super pinky promise to not run for a full term.

Dems love to brag about how they always do the right thing when necessary and were especially critical of Republicans when George Santos was indicted.

But here we are now - Santos has been removed from the House while Chuck Schumer continues to shield the most corrupt member of the Senate from any sort of consequence. So far the only penalty Menendez has suffered is losing his position as Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee. He wasn’t even removed from the committee, he just isn’t the chairman anymore.

Wait, wait, wait… Democrats are hypocrites? unpossible.

I know you're loving this both sides topic almost as Pine loves the school voucher threads, but I agree he shouldn't be on any committee. As soon as due process is done he will be out. Don't pretend that Republicans moved fast on Santos.
Faster than D’s on Menendez.

He’s a repeat offender Tom. He got “admonished” by the ethics committee in 2018 and Schumer punished him by giving him the chairmanship of the foreign relations committee in 2020. 😂😂😂

Whataboutism. It’s your go to.

Whataboutism. It’s your go to.
Your go to is spending your retirement following me around here. That doesn't seem fulfilling.
I'll stand on it, though. Why haven't the Republicans made an issue of this? Asking that question isn't a whataboutism, by the way. A whataboutism is to change the subject. I did not change the subject. I pointed out that the Republicans are failing to exploit an issue that could be a positive for them.
