Brock Harding down to 6 schools

It doesn't effect the current scholarship until the following semester.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • What it is:
The NCAA transfer portal is an online database where student-athletes who wish to transfer to another NCAA institution list their names.

  • How it works:
    • A student-athlete notifies their current school's compliance office of their intent to transfer.

    • The compliance office then enters the student-athlete's name into the portal within a specific timeframe (typically two business days for Division I schools).

    • Once in the portal, other schools can contact the student-athlete to explore the possibility of a transfer.
  • Why it's important:
The transfer portal streamlines the transfer process, making it easier for student-athletes to explore new opportunities and for coaches to identify and recruit talent.

  • Transfer windows:
The NCAA has instituted notification-of-transfer windows for different sports, meaning athletes can only obtain immediate eligibility if they enter the transfer portal within the designated windows.

  • Student-athlete eligibility:
As long as student-athletes are "academically eligible in good standing" with their current school, they are eligible to play immediately upon arrival at their new school.

  • Athletic aid:
After notifying their current school of their intent to transfer, a Division I school can cancel or reduce a student-athlete's athletically related financial aid for the next academic term and subsequent terms.
You forgot to notify the tattoo parlor.

The portal is just opening up today. I doubt anyone is jumping to sign BH today, or tomorrow. Everyone is still surveying prospective transfers and their own roster needs for next year. Unless the transfer has a "no contact" order & they have a deal already arranged. Which ain't Brock.

According to QConline today, Brock's dad said Iowa hasn't reached out to him. Of course things may have changed since that was published.

Thanks for that. However, I interpret that as the school being obligated to pay scholarship for the rest of the current semester, but it says nothing about that student having the right to resume scholarship the following semester if he changes his mind. I still think that's up to the coach.

Yes it appears to say the school (coach) can cancel his scholly for next year as soon as a Dude goes into the portal. I think in Josh Ogundele case, he went to portal, no one wanted him, and he had to get Fran to agree to take him back. Completing the current semester on scholarship to maintain eligibility seems obvious. So we have Harding through May unless he drops out on his own.

Harding strikes me as a guy that loves B-ball, getting a degree and real career is not on his radar. He's not going to want to be a backup PG behinde a guy that plays 39 minutes per game. From McCollum perspective, Harding is not good fit either, so why not recruit someone else with better potential for McCollum system that is more willing to be a backup.

brock is a very solid d1 point guard. He needs a coach that can coach the position and account for his liabilities on defense. Fran could do neither. I still prefer Brock to a jordan bohannon. Their averages are similar and jB got to play with much better talent and shooters.
Brock was also like the last guy on offense you had to game plan for as a shooter and got a ton of open looks. Not the case for a Dix or Payton Sandfort or Jordan Bohannon.

You said "Again, anyone can say or tweet anything" which is equivalent to calling Brock a liar.

when Brock is Louisville's starting point guard on a Sweet 16 team

So now you are moving the goalposts from "Brock is not a Division 1 player" to "Brock has to be a starter for a blueblood and make it to at least the Sweet Sixteen". Got it. ;)
I never said he wasn't a D-1 player, either.

Why do you keep making stuff up? Is that the only way you can "win" arguments?

Brock wouldn't be the first college athlete embellishing on his situation.

No, I didn't. Why are you making stuff up?

You are welcome to come here and call-out all the fans when Brock is Louisville's starting point guard on a Sweet 16 team. Until then, I think you need to chill, because you haven't been proven right; not by a long shot.

Many on this board have dissed him and declared that he is only a mid major type of player. If it wasn't you, good for you and my apologies. I hope he stays.

TBH I haven't cared enough about the MBB team this season to make any judgements on any particular player.

I'm all for any Hawkeye that wants to stay if BMac wants him to.

From what I've gathered regarding Harding, I think he can be a P5 player, but I'd be surprised if he were an impact player on a competitive team.

Um what?? Go check out his shooting percentages. Some of you believe the bs some shovel.
That’s the thing. Looking at a guy’s 3 point shooting percentages tells you nothing about what kind of looks he gets in a game. Hell, Jordan Bohannon and Payton Sandfort had some of their worst years shooting the three towards the end of their careers. Did they get worse as shooters? Obviously not. They just didn’t get easy looks because they were the focal points of Iowa shooting the three ball. Harding just got open looks all the time.

Yeah. I think some folks develop a hard on for some player and never review the data. Harding was a definite asset on the offensive end of the court. His only disadvantage is his height which presents as a bigger issue on the defensive end. He had some turnover issues last year and had a tendency to lose his focus on defense but he was much better this year. All in all a solid if unspectacular player this year.

He shot the 3 pretty well this year at Others got open looks as well and shot no better with the exception of Dix and Thelwell. I don't know why you're arguing this point. Cmac was left open for most of his career and dared to shoot all the time and shot 31% for his career. Patrick was 32%. Brock is at 39%.

I agree Connor and PMac got way, way too many minutes. And they couldn’t shoot the three. No arguments from me on that one.

Are these six options paying him or also looking at him 'for free'?
I know what you are saying, “free”, but that just sounds so wrong. I keep thinking this is still about getting a free education and playing basketball! I sure miss the more recent past. This pay for play has to be changing lots of fans interest in college sports. I sure know it has changed mine. Personally, I received $3,000 a year to play D2 baseball until I blew both ACL’s. Would have gotten much more if I was a pitcher. I’m blaming my dad and coaches for bringing me up as an outfielder 🤣🤣

lil bit, yeah...
I figured as much, and thank you for at least being honest enough to admit it unlike some others.

and no thanks necessary I enjoy what I do. But you're welcome for all that I do.
You're right. I am welcome for you being wrong, and I appreciate you taking pride in that.

I also appreciate your support for my statement of fact about our fanbase. :D
