BTN said, "We're going to go to a happy Tom Brands for a post match interview"
(ha!, thought I)
His mind is on 97.
Brooks came back.
Again 97
Great start by Gilman and Clark.
Burak was tentative
Some guys are good examples.
We've got to be more than 4 guys.
We've got to use those examples.
I'd say a 7.5 on the Brands happy meter

I love it how he said "Fine me. Fine me for public comments." (something close to that) in reference to the ref reviewing the call at the end of Burak's match and not overturning it.

The Vall-O-Meter was pleased to see a MN HWT take a shot, and a bad one at that, and an Iowa HWT got the TD. Then I was really pleased to see it 2X.

BTN announcers said 2
The guilotine (sans Jammz, of course) were thinking 2 and not going to be too mad about it.
Ironside -2
Apparently CP said "No 2".

I've never thought it was a good idea to have the ref review his own call. There's an obvious conflict of interest in that situation. You have a ref who just made a very unpopular call and got booed by the home crowd. . . and you now expect him to impartially review the action on video and possibly admit his mistake to the crowd that just booed his call. I'm sure the refs are doing their best to be objective, but they're human, and the natural inclination in that kind of situation is to support your own call rather than overturn it and admit to a hostile crowd that you were wrong. I'm not saying refs would uphold a clearly incorrect call just to save face, but when there's a gray area as to the correct call, it's going to be darn near impossible for any ref to review the video without any bias in his own favor.

One option would be to have the second ref do the review without the primary ref involved, but the second ref would inevitably feel some sense of loyalty to the primary ref and some reluctance to show him up by overturning his call. Again, not that this would be a conscious thing, but it would be a completely natural tendency.

Another option would be to assign a video ref to every competition, which would seem to be quite costly and would probably result in a lot of video refs just hanging out without being consulted.

So although I'm not a fan of the current system, I'm not sure there's a markedly better solution that would be practical.

IMO, if the sports wants to grow, something that's so hard to figure should go to the offensive wrestler.

Had precisely the same thought at that moment, Hounded. Always give the benefit of the doubt to the aggressor, no matter who he wrestles for.

I'm with Brands pound it into Buraks head don't leave it up to the offical. He just has to believe in himself no matter who the opponent it. If he would have shot like he did in the las 15 sec of the match in the first,2nd period he would have broke Pfarr he has the goods gotta use them.

Where is there video of the interview?

Can I agree but still say it was "2"? The comments on the Guilotine were along the likes of "this may be overturned" and "even it is reversed, it was a good match" which for that forum, is a referendum on giving the 2.

Can do what ever u wish still loses the match. Why wait till the end to start wrestling? Match was tied with over a min left Pfarr gets his take down with only around I believe 20 secs left and Burak can get a escape and goes after him maybe was 2 but reff said no. Now if he can go and get 3 points in 20 seconds why in heck wait around till then, go and score in first period he has the tools this year just use them don't let the rank of your oppent get in u r head.........just saying

let's see nate finds an extra gear after wrestling a grueling 7 minute match and all anyone can say is if you would quit standing around, never mind

First period score 2-1 ya lots of action . Hey don't wanna argue about this Nate if he uses his shots can take out any one he is just not as active with a top guy and it is in his head. He does not and a 3-2 or 2=1 score with any of these guys.

I saw it in person, it was 2. Great shot that was there the entire match and Nathan just didn't go after it. He hit it in the 2nd with ease. Frustrating, but a great match to watch.

To add to the conversation, as most of us deem that Burak had a takedown, was there back points also involved? I couldn't see clearly but it looked like he may have had a 2 count....

I don't believe there is any "counting" going on unless you've already determined control has been established.
