Ladji needs to come off the bench. Maybe that’s the plan when the team gets healthy.

The 2 foul rule kills this team. They, at the very least, should see spot minutes in the first half. Disqualifying them for the rest of the half is idiocy and hurts the team. The team did respond positively, today.

Payton shot us out of the game before his final shots. We might not have needed such a response had we not been so far down.

Traore and Koch are needed. We need our best players on the court.

Rebounding, or lack thereof, is killing us. And, poor FT shooting. One is easier to improve. Improvement in either would be a big help.

I agreed with the two foul rule today. Maybe you could give Freeman some minutes late in the 1st half but no reason to today. Mulvey actually did a pretty good job and we clawed our way back with Freeman on the bench. Why bring him in at that point. I thought Freeman’s minutes were spot on today given the fouls.

People will complain if we take them out and they’ll complain if we leave them in and they get another foul. Fran is on the “take them out” side and I can live with that.

Fran's bizarre rotation decisions aside, Mulvey is not a quality B1G player. But he is what they have available. Against 2 non-speedy 7 footers this would have been the time to see Mulvey get more of Dembele's minutes.
I don’t know how you can say that. The sample size for Mulvey is incredibly small, and mostly positive this year. He could be an above average back up center if given the chance.

Fran's solution to Iowa coming back from a 16 point deficit is to pull the players that were responsible and keep them on the bench until midway through the second half. Dembele adds absolutely nothing at either end of the court. Fran needs to swap Dembele with Thelwell and sub in Mulvey for Freeman. When Traore comes back there is no reason to have Dembele play anything other than spot minutes. He had far and away the worst +/- today at minus 18.

-Harding needs to stop trapping himself in the lane
-Need a little more Tadjo
-Tadjo needs to be smarter about fouls
-Freeman see Tadjo
-Need to squeeze more minutes out of Thelwell
-Less Dembele
-We have to find a way to not give up so many easy buckets
Is Traore close to returning ?

This last one, we gave up a ton of layups in the second half. We have to a better job of keeping the other teams drivers in front of us. We get beat off the dribble constantly. Playing Thelwell and Harding at the same time would help. Payton and Pryce have to shut down the lane and be able to move laterally better.

Also, our low post interior D was non existent. Freeman was either out or playing more cautious. No one else was able to truly match up or protect the rim.

Payton getting beat off the dribble from 20 feet out by the aforementioned slow 7 footer was a great example of the challenges this team faces.

PS chances of keeping anybody in front of him on D are slim. Doesn't matter who it is. Severe lack of lateral quickness and overall footspeed is too great to overcome. It was unsurprising that he had some of the worst measureables in pre-draft analysis.
