But....but......we don't need voter ID laws.........

I have no problem with a good voter ID law. Haven't seen one yet. Here's an example and thanks for suggesting it. Require an ID. If someone doesn't have one they still get to vote. The party officials can go to the listed address for a follow-up. The vote still counted but it would only take one election to determine if there was an actual problem and you don't have to check every single voter in a precinct - just the ones who failed to produce an ID. The vote still counted but at least we could shut the door on the specious claims of in-person voter fraud.

How's that?
LOL.....nice try, and I mean that sincerely. I know you're serious and there are aspects of your suggestion that I think make a lot of sense. But you'd get hauled into court so fast by the ACLU that you wouldn't even have a chance to say that some of your best friends don't have IDs. And just imagine the reaction from the lefties on this board to the idea of tracking down people after they voted. INTIMIDATION! RACISM!

The simple way to shut the door on legitimate concerns about in-person voter fraud is to use the same standard required for ordering a beer.

I'm on board with that, I haven't shown an ID for beer in a decade, how about you Lone?

As was noted, I don't show an ID to buy beer. And going behind voters to check and see if they are who they say they are was your idea.

Do you not see the difference between what I was proposing and your suggestion for having two classes of voter?

Look, tar, this discussion always gets sidetracked and overly nasty too quickly. I take blame for my part in that, although in this case I've been careful to avoid assigning nefarious motives to opponents of ID requirement.

I don't know how much you've read about the subject, but truly, it's a freaking catastrophe waiting to happen. We got a taste of it in 2000, but apparently not enough of a taste to convince people that real reform is necessary. (I'm not talking just about ID now).
