anyone else think the bye week hurts the Huskers heading into this game? I don't see a good team that needed a week to heal up and prepare.....I see an average team that was just starting to get on a roll and then had to take a week off.

Am I off base here?

I thought a little bit about that too.. Bye week's statistically don't have the advantage most people think they do!

Bye weeks are great if you have some dinged up players that need a week to get back into the lineup. However, it seems like teams tend to come out flat after bye weeks, so here's to hoping that is the case for Nebraska.

From a WSJ article in 2010:

How BCS teams have fared in conference games after a bye week since 2002.

CONFERENCE POST-BYE RECORD PCT.
Big 12 53-49 .520
Pac-10 56-56 .500
Southeastern 53-53 .500
Atlantic Coast* 51-56 .477
Big East* 29-35 .453
Big Ten 17-32 .347
TOTAL 259-281 .480
*based on conference's current membership

This proves what we already know: Teams win or lose based upon talent. Half the teams with a bye finish in the lower half of the conference standings (duh), but they finish there because of their talent. It may have a small impact that helps a team if they play another team that is equal in talent, but it may also negatively impact rhythm and routine, which is huge in such a rhythmic sport as football.

Normally, Ol' Doodle is of the "just lace em up and play" attitude.

But in the case of this week, Doodle does think the league office needs to look at the fairness of giving a team a bye before their opponent not only has a short week, but also has to travel. Basically Iowa has four days to prepare while Nebraska has 12.

That is a much greater disparity than the normal bye situation.

If the Big Ten is going to persist in its insistence that this game be played on Black Friday, then they simply can't allow either team to have a bye the week before.

Agree with Doodle.

I wouldn't think a bye week helps Nebby - yes they are better rested, but maybe they are a little rusty. I thought the Hawks were rusty in their game against MD, and it was CJ's worst game.

KF said the same on his show last night - "sometimes that bye week can work against you". I expect the Hawks to come out firing.

I think we'll be ready to keep rolling "one game at a time". Like others said they have a chance of being flat after all that time off, plus knowing at best they'll be 6-6 May help us.
