Some excerpts:

CW avereaged 13 minutes of playing time per game. "I just kind of had to swallow a little pride and take the next step forward....."

Jordan Bohannon is Iowa’s point guard now, a job he seized from Williams and played well enough to earn a spot on the all-freshman team in the Big Ten Conference.

Williams got off to a slow start last winter and never seemed comfortable as a scorer. He averaged 2.4 points and 1.6 assists. But his defensive value was never in question. With a wingspan of 6-11, he gathered 26 steals to rank fourth on the team.

Williams told reporters after helping his team win a Prime Time League game at the North Liberty Community Center on Sunday that his goal is to establish himself as a wing player for the Hawkeyes in an attempt to absorb the 31 minutes per game that the graduated Peter Jok leaves behind.

"That’s a huge adjustment for me," Williams conceded. "I’ve got to score the ball. That’s some pressure, but I think I can handle it."

Williams has been hoisting 500 3-pointers every day this summer, some from NBA range. As a player who admits he struggles with confidence at times, that has gone a long way toward making him feel more comfortable.

And there’s also a nagging hip flexor injury that dogged him throughout last season and that he tweaked again Sunday. Williams said he believes that issue will always be with him, but he’s learning to adjust.

This is exactly why Connor needed to play this year. He needed to eat up the backup pg duties so JW can be the 3 he is supposed to be. Hope he can stay healthy and play the backup point again this season and be the best player he can be. Real trooper for sticking it out through pain and playing out of position.

Cudo's to CW for sticking with it. Would love for this to end up as another A Clemmons type story. Rooting for you CW!

Like his shooting regimine and hope he can surprise. Needs a finishing shot off his drives too as much as the 3's.in the halfcourt...can get inside but with his length he should have a few more ways to score....

This thread, and the info provided, had really calmed my concerns that as I get older I am losing my ability to evaluate basketball players.

There was just no way the Williams we had on the court last year was the same Williams I watched (on video) several full games when he was in high school.

If he can get past the injury bug and regain his confidence...he will be a good one.

Agreed. I also liked his HS video. He and Ellingson both have the skills to help this team, they just need to find the confidence they had in HS. Maybe a season of better health will give CW back his touch, and ignite him on both ends of the court.

I just wonder about "this nagging hip flexor injury" that dogged him throughout last season. As the article stated, he tweaked it again playing in the PTL. Williams said he believes the issue will always be with him, but he’s learning to adjust. I wonder if/when he will ever get back to 100% health.
