Alford had the good sense to leave on his own. Davis gave Iowa a Sweet16. This Fran guy is tanking the team or a complete moron. If his heart is not into coaching and he's waiting to get fired for the full buyout, than that is not honorable. HIs Kid killed a guy and his family issued a statement it was "unavoidable" when their boy didn't even brake when he passed a stopped car in a cross walk---was that an honorable press release/response? No ****ing way that accident was unavoidable.

Iowa just doesn’t have talent or athleticism. Dix and maybe Traore and Thelwell off the bench are about the only Iowa players I would want on the team. The rest are PWO or Missouri Valley talent.

Payton Sandfort clearly has the McCaffrey union card. It doesn’t matter how many ill-advised shots he chucks up, how soft he is on defense, or how little he cares about boxing out and rebounding, his minutes are never in doubt. Harding belongs at Kirkwood; Mulvey is a joke; Dembele has Adam Woodbury athleticism, and the other Sandfort is a carbon copy of his brother.

Wisconsin is pretty much what they always are—scrappy and well coached. No one on the floor really impresses you too much, Tonje is decent, they just have a bunch of guys who can shoot 3s and play tough defense. Generally, that’s a recipe for winning a lot of games.

Anyway, I watched today and it’s pretty much what I expected. Even if Iowa pulls this game out of their ass, Fran ball needs to go. Bring in a coach who stops scouring the sales counters of J Crew and the Pottery Barn for recruits. This is college basketball, not a swim meet.

Glad I did not watch. I have a lot less frustration in life by not watching this stuff. They are not a good team and they have a lack of coaching talent to upgrade talent and coach that talent to another level. I hope Beth knows what she is doing because dragging this out another year or two will be even more incredibly painful. I honestly think Fran is at the "F*#k it" stage. He is not going to change for anyone or anything. This is his last gig and "If you don't like it then fire me and give me my buyout".

That tells you all you need to know about the state of this program. I'm not making any effort to watch them. If I'm already in front of the TV on a weeknight and they happen to be playing AT HOME, I might watch some.

I have said this from about year 7 on for Fran as you could see signs of it. Iowa is not a mentally tough team and hasn't been under Fran. Whenever it gets to crunch time in tight games, they lack the composer to play their best. Teams always take on the personality of their coach and even early on you could see this developing. Crying and whining about calls, sloppy defense, sudden bad shooting.

How about Beth forcing his hand with an external hire as his co-head coach? Let Fran deal with that humiliation! Two can play this game if Beth has the fortitude we expect in this role.
