If Iowa were to lose to MSU in the ccg, OSU could (most likely would) be ranked higher than iowa. Why would the Rose take iowa over them? Their national fanbase eclipses iowa's, (and let's be real, OSU puts out a much better tv product than iowa). Vegas would probably put OSU at -6.5 in a head to head match up vs iowa, so why is everyone so confident iowa gets in over OSU?

I wouldn't be surprised to see you in rose bowl after Iowa beats Msu. Iowa will be in cfb playoff while your make believe Iowa line dangles before an imaginary bookie.

OSU has (edit, 1st rounder) NFL caliber players on both sides of the ball and just dominated a Top 10 team. We have no such claim. That said, we beat MSU and we are in the championship playoffs not tOSU!

Iowa won their division. OSU has no such claim.

ROSE BOWL GAME PRESENTED BY NORTHWESTERN MUTUAL (Pasadena, Calif.)
1. When not hosting a semifinal, the Big Ten Champion will play in the Rose Bowl Game, unless among the top four teams.
2. If the Big Ten Champion qualifies for the playoff, the Rose Bowl Game will choose a replacement Big Ten team.
3. The Rose Bowl Game has sole discretion on a replacement team, and will generally select the highest‐rated available team, but will take into consideration final College Football Playoff rankings, head‐to‐head competition, division champions and most recent Rose Bowl Game appearances.

So in other words they can take who they want and it makes most sense to take a highly rated, defending national champion, large fan base OSU. No brainer.

Rose will get whoever they want, and if necessary the final rankings will be manipulated to make sure that team is the higher ranked team.

I don't believe Iowa would be selected over OSU for the Rose Bowl. The only way would be if Iowa's loss to MSU was by fewer than OSU's, and if Barry and the boys ranked it that way. The only politics that would change this are in the selection committee room. That being said, barring a blowout loss to the spartans, Iowa has certainly done more to earn it than OSU, but they'll end up in a bowl with similar clout.

This is what seems obvious, but there must be more to it since many fans are confident iowa gets the nod over osu

The one aspect I am not considering is within this made for TV event that the Rose might be willing to take a less sexy matchup with Iowa this year because the Pac 12 champ will be a 2 loss Stanford or in the event of a title game upset a dIsappointing USC with an interim head coach. This allows the committee to set up a very sexy Notre Dame v OSU somewhere else?

Stewart Mandel tweeted out that he spoke to Rose Bowl chairman. If MSU wins in Indy, the "strong presumption" is that the game will take the next-highest ranked CFP team, period.

OSU fans don't care about the Rose Bowl like Hawkeye fans will. That's one reason to take Iowa. Our fans will be excited to go to the Rose Bowl.
