I wonder as he watches this game vs Wisconsin, Is he thinking he is watching his starting role starting to shrink? I'm sure he wants the team to win, but doesn't want the current qb to have a good game.

He's had plenty of time to prove himself...maybe he's relieved the pressure to perform is done for now.

I dont think Cade is hoping Sully plays poorly. Cade takes the blame and he wants the team to win and his teammates have to perform to do that

Ferentz looks like he can't wait to put Cade back in. He didn't even crack a smile after the 3rd touchdown. His ego appears to be suffering right now.
I thought Kirk was harsh on Sullivan during halftime interview, stating something like he threw a bad pass out of bounds. I don’t recall any words on Cades last pass being a pick 6 for Ferentz.

Really piss poor how he throws some guys under the bus. It's a constant with the non-starters at QB. Gotta be a real confidence builder:rolleyes:

It would be interesting to hear what players have to say about how the two QB's play in practice. It's obvious who plays better on Saturdays. Although the fans wish he had made the change earlier, Kirk had the most to lose by playing him. His career record and bonus depend on him winning games. I know he is stubborn, but not quite sure why he didn't pull the trigger earlier, when he has so much riding on the outcome of each game.

Agreed. After a very positive performance so far, it seemed out of left field for KF to comment on a “bad pass”. Sullivan was playing great. It seemed like KF was going out of his way to be critical. For a 15-second interview, very odd to be making any negative comments when so much was going well.

Pretty petty honestly

As for Cade, I have no doubt he wants the best for the team. He’s a super young man and very mature. While I’m sure he’d prefer to be leading the offense like any competitor would want, I have no doubt he’s fully supporting Brendan.

The concussion was a good opportunity for Cade to sit and give Brendan a chance to see what he could do — not that any concussion is “good”. This is also an opportunity for Cade to rest up and serve in a supporting role while also saving face — he wasn’t outwardly benched for poor performance, although the O was clearly struggling under his leadership.

This is a golden opportunity for KF to keep Brendan as the starter as long as the O is clicking under his leadership. He can simply say that Brendan “has the hot hand” and that they’re staying with him for that reason. If (highly unlikely) the O happens to sputter under Brendan, Cade can then come back in without the pressure that he had previously and with a chance to help right the ship.

This is how KF SHOULD play this. Hopefully he does. I really think any good coach would.

Any good coach would have benched Cade after Iowa State. Doesn’t mean you can’t go back to him but Kirk seems to think you can’t.

KF doesn’t want to bench his qb1 and go to qb2 or qb3 because that would mean he was wrong and his ego can’t allow that to happen. For all the great things he has done at Iowa, he has a blind spot for “his qb1l” and putting his son ahead of the program. He wasted three years of elite defense and this year with a pretty good one to prove he was right. In truth, he was wrong but just can’t admit it or that his son wasn’t the right fit either due to his arrogance. I’m ready for him to get the record and get out. Let someone younger take the reigns.

It was bizarre.

Yea. Definitely. It just keeps proving how disastrous Brian Ferentz was at offensive coordinator and “quarterback coach.”

Sully completed 70% of his passes last night, and the offense seems to be in sync and can move the chains consistently. Aside from not being a complete statue in the pocket, it seems he had been a a complete upgrade at the position. Barring a complete meltdown, there is no logical reason to switch back, idc if that means a million bucks are riding the pine.

Yeah, I wasn't sure what that was about. Seems like the captain was grasping for straws. He's already on record saying he mostly played Sullivan because McNamara had injury and that McNamara gave us the best chance to win. Give credit to KF for hiring Lester. Other than that, KF instincts on offense are right up there with Brian Ferentz.

It is hard to loom back and understand what "could have been". I love Krik....but this has blemished him on my side for sure.

KF at half when asked about QB play, said sully has been playing well but made a really terrible mistake at some point. He emphasized the mistake bigly .. like wtf dude this team is playing balls with sully
Sully threw a pass up for grabs. Panic, a bad look. Not the first time he's done it.
