Cade Olivas

Not a surprise, but man, is Zeke stockpiling the talent. Olivas will be an absolute stud. Well, he already is.

Can you imagine what these kids think after spending a weekend or a couple days in Arizona. The women are smoking hot, awesome weather, great area and a really good school and wrestling program. Once that roster takes shape, it could turn into something really special.

Or it could fall apart for all of the reasons above. I have a feeling ASU is going to turn in to a west coast power however they will still have to deal with keep 18-23 year old men focused on wrestling and academics as opposed to girls and partying. The Hawkeyes (and every other team I am sure) has lost some talent and had others not reach their potential due to the distractions that come with being at a large party school.

Not to say that this well happen to Cade or the Valencia brothers but lets not pencil them in for national titles quite yet.

I actually think the emergence of ASU as players helps Iowa. I think there is a certain type of guy that Iowa will always attract. I then think there are the places that are the hot place to go that attracts the types of guy Iowa has a hard time landing. If ASU wasn't in the picture I think it was more likely these types of recruits would have ended up at PSU or tOSU. Basically what I am saying is I think having ASU in the picture hurts PSU and tOSU more than Iowa.

I also think, from personal experience, that ASU will be a very tough place to get a whole team to stay focused on wrestling. Especially if guys are going there because of the environment.

Considering needs, I'd rather have a Holloway commit than Olivas

I can respect this point, but I have a different perspective of speculation. ASU hurts all of us from getting West Coast kids that want to stay closer to home. Iowa now has to compete even harder for East Coast kids to get them away from PSU and Ohio State. Don't think This Helps Iowa at All... I think it at best is a Wash. I could be wrong, time will tell.

In response to the other poster, I will say any wrestler going to ASU for Girls and weather are not the kind of wrestlers Cael or Brands would want...think Rocky 4 Training Montague...Cold weather training makes a man tough..lol In the immortal words of Mickey.."Women Weaken Legs";)

I find this topic rather funny to be honest. Arizona State has had a wrestling program for a LONG time. They've won 1 National Title and been off the radar as much as they've been on it, and I'm pretty sure the weather was the same 40-50 years ago as it is today, the girls have always been hot, they've had really good coaches and wrestlers, and they've always been close to California. They have nowhere to go but up, and have to be throwing some serious money around to get who they're getting at the moment. We'll see how that plays out over time.

The ASU weather isn't so hot right now. Well, actually it is and will continue to be for 6 months.

If super studs went where the weather was nice and the women were hot, Cal State Fullerton wouldn't have lost their wrestling program and Cal Poly-SLO would be relevant. ASU was a power house not that long ago and then some bad coaching and recruiting left them where they were. Zeke Jones is an Olympic Champ and was the US National Freestyle Coach. He's THE reason that this program is turning itself around. I think if Zeke Jones decided to go to Boise St, many top recruits would follow him there. I think ASU being nationally relevant is absolutely a good thing for our sport. I would LOVE to see Iowa beat ASU in a closely contested dual. BTW as AZ Chief can attest Tempe is pretty miserable in September. 110-120 degrees not my cup of tea.

ASU doesn't do well in Athletics. I think their last men's title was indoor track. As a major metro area, with a crapload of stuff to do (and yes, the ASU girls), one would think their recruiting in football, basketball, and even baseball would be top notch. It ain't. This isn't to say that Zeke can't build a great program, though. I just root against anything Scum Devil.
