Cade in the Portal - Options

Did he try his best? He was healthy and cleared for the last 2 games of the season but allowed a 5th stringer go out there and lead the team.
So if he was refusing to play, why did the coaches even let him suit up? Hell, I don’t know if he cashed in the season or not. The bottom line is he wasn’t very good anyway. Why all the hate? If he was available and got put in, would he have done any better than his previous attempts? I wasn’t disappointed when he got benched. I just don’t understand all the hate towards him.

They didn’t let him suit up. Are you intentionally dense? Cade’s quitting the team, storming out of practice made Kirk, Brian, and Cade look awful. They all tried to save face by letting him stay on the team and not dress.

My point being there weren’t expectations on Hill and Petras. Hill will probably go down as the worst Iowa quarterback in the modern era but he was never supposed to be the guy. McNamara was.
But he wasn't the guy. He was terrible. That's not on him. That's on the staff. And to say that there weren't expectations of Petras isn't correct. He was the starting QB for 3 years.

Ok. It really doesn’t matter that my point is even if he didn’t quit, would he have played any better than what he showed? So, he quit (I honestly didn’t know that if true) but reality is, he wasn’t any good anyway so I don’t care if he took his ball and went home. I don’t hate him for not being any good and I don’t hate him for not playing the final few games…

I'm with you. Kirk and Brian looked bad before Cade quit. I was more than happy never to see Cade take another snap at Iowa so him ducking out of the last 2 games means nothing to me. Hooray.

He was not in uniform the last three games, and didn't travel to the road games.....

Agreed. Petras came in with some pretty high expectations. Wasn't he the guy who broke all kinds of high school records in California held by Jared Goff and also came in and was a starting Big 10 QB as a sophomore? Most fans would rightfully have extremely high expectations for a kid like that. He just failed to live up to them.

Based on the relatively good season he had this year, it's pretty clear that he was not coached nearly to his potential.
The same can likely be said about McNamara, though the ceiling on an immobile, inaccurate, and weak armed QB is pretty low.

Petras always had good physical skills and made throws that Cade could only dream of. He obviously had poor coaching being stuck with Brian. His biggest problem was between his ears and some of that might have been the result of getting the shit knocked out of him for 3 years behind one of the worst olines in Iowa history and his lack of mobility didn't help that. With that said, Petras looked like Tebow compared to Cade.

I never thought I would live long enough to see our OLines become so woefully inept - for years.
Supposedly we were OLineU.
Was losing Doyle THE key factor?
Not a Doyle fan, but OLine play has fallen off a cliff into The Abyss since he was gone.
Our QBs have of late been low D3 caliber (maybe), but only Thor would have had a chance behind our lines.
Makes me weep.

And how many of you were ecstatic when Cade signed with Iowa?
This, I couldn’t believe how many on here had a major boner over this guy. The dude struggled and got benched at Michigan where he had championship talent all around him. This was even before her got hurt.
It really showed how clueless our coaches were about recruiting him and how clueless this board was about him.

I think it also showed how bad our quarterback talent was at the time. Ever since Stanley left

There were so many other options available for them right? Please list who else we could have gotten, realistically. .. I’ll be waiting.

So we were supposed to have a boner because we brought in another crappy qb? Let’s hope you aren’t doing any hiring at your job. Sorry boss,I know he only comes in once a week but he was the best I could find

Some was Doyle but his protegee took over. There were also a couple of misses (especially in Iowa/Illinois) in recruiting after Morgan retired. Guess who was in charge of the OL and OL recruiting.
