In what world does any white girl have a privilege over black athletes? Fast twitch fibers? No. Jumping ability? No. Speed? No, reflexes? No. It is mind boggling hearing Wilson say CC have privilege in basketball

Here’s the thing… i’m a big believer on drilling down on context. I don’t believe in a “macro” white privilege. Just like I don’t believe in “macro” evolution

I do believe people are treated differently, but it’s not as simple as a black-and-white thing, it’s a pretty thing, a wealth thing, a height thing, etc., etc., etc. in which the average black person versus the average white person… Call it the “mean” certainly faces different experiences in life.

However, to universally say All white people have it better than Group B or Group E or Group L is too far reaching. And what they really mean is “white men“.

The point being, CC worked her ass off, her skill wasn’t “given to her“. But she clearly was blessed with better genetics than most people and her folks were also wealthy enough to build her a basketball court that if memory serves was partially inside and partially outside and hire her a trainer

So she did have some advantages, but she also had to take advantage of those “advantages”.

On a related note, I don’t think the WNBA thing is purely about black/white or lesbian versus heterosexual. I mentioned drilling down on context. I don’t know why we always have to reach for things like race and sexual orientation to blame

Life generally comes down to, pride, selfishness, jealousy, and keeping yourself “up” by keeping others “down” ! And there certainly was a jealousy factor & an effort not to let her “show” them up.

But there is a side narrative out there, driven by idiots that are desperate to find somebody else, often times a black girl who is better than her. And there is an equally ridiculous effort out there to defend her, meaning CC at all cost.

It really is an amazing scenario🤷‍♂️

Agreed with the points on privilege. I think there is definitely 'visual' privilege out there (height, attractiveness, skin color, etc) and to pretend there isn't is laughable. The people who say "I don't see x,y,z visual characteristic when make decisions, judgments, etc are flat out lying to themselves. It's human nature. I think 'privilege' has become a toxic word at this point, it only gets people mad. Advantages is a much better operative word.

Dear God, let the race stuff go.

I agreed with this and gave it a like sometime ago, but I do think it’s worth saying. It’s pretty hard to “just” let it go..,,

And we can start with 4 basic centrist views.

One) Just super tired of hearing about it regardless of merit.

Two) super tired of hearing it because I understand conceptionally, but it is way over done and neither extreme side is reasonable enough to explain it to

Three) you’re really just tired of hearing people suggest it’s not “real” and don’t feel the need to defend it.

Four) tired of hearing about it because although racism is a real thing, we all are ultimately guilty of prejudice.

On out to the extreme left and right….

But as far as letting it go, it’s big business and a political platform and I don’t anticipate it ever being “let go” 🤷‍♂️

More often I find people saying things like “let it go“ because they have their views and they don’t want anybody to try to convince them otherwise and they don’t want to be told they’re wrong.

There is a lot wrong with the world, and it didn’t start with being white or black.

I think the word popular is even better.
