“When you just keep singling out one player, it creates hard feelings,” added Johnson, co-owner of three Washington sports franchises – the NHL’s Capitals, the NBA’s Wizards and the WNBA’s Mystics.

What a dumb cvnt. When Alex Ovechkin breaks Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record for career goals, is ownership going to celebrate the entire NHL because of all the talent in the league? Or are they going to single out Ovechkin and focus all their attention on him? Because that might create hard feelings.

I don't think you'd feel the same way if it was Angel Reese alone on the cover and the owner made the same comment.
I wouldn't feel the same way because all I would feel is Time made a stupid choice, similar to if Time made Rhyne Howard or Jonquel Jones Time athlete of the year.

I would probably just wonder why Time magazine chose the second most influential WNBA rookie to be on their cover.

Maybe Angel Reese will publicly ridicule Johnson for her idiotic suggestion like she did when Jill Biden suggested that both LSU and Iowa should visit the White House.

Maybe. But probably not.

I can’t believe an owner who is watching the value of their franchise take off because of this one player had the metaphorical balls to talk about it creating “hard feelings”. Wow. Way to infantilize your players. Be thankful that mass media and popular culture is finally caring about your league in any way.

Never mind thr ridiculousness of being upset the entire WNBA should have made the cover, Clark shined in both college and pro basketball last year. If you think everyone needs to be included then the cover should have been women's basketball not just the W, but we all know one person drove more eyes to the game.

Whether you like Caitlin's remarks as an act of self-awareness and respect for those who "built the league" OR you think she "bended the knee," this immediately shows what a futile gesture it was.

The anger and entitlement of the old guard WNBA knows no bounds and will clearly not be dulled by speaking niceties. In fact, it seems your words Caitlin may have merely sharpened the resentment towards you.

I do think Caitlin's heart is in the right place, but that means little to the hardened WNBAers and their BLM inspired agenda.

They will never respect or accept her. Ever.

Is this a real thing? I don't follow the WNBA outside of Caitlin Clark box scores and some headlines. It seems like you know the WNBA.

Yeahhh, Sheila Johnson looks real ****ing petty in that interview.

Fun Fact: 31% of the Mystics entire home attendance this year came from the 2 home games that they moved to a bigger arena against the Fever.
The women in the WNBA are pathetic and Clark isn’t the gangster killer Jordan type I thought she was.

She should have made these whores all kiss the ring after she buries the rest of the league further into obscurity, not attribute her cult like following to her race, showing that this shit is in her head. There isn’t a woman of any race that plays like her. She knows that.

Clark was targeted and beat up on by the lesbian power brokers of the league who envy the attention she gets and don’t think it is fair that 1 player gets all the love while they wallow in front of empty arenas with nobody watching on TV.

To me and to people who I think are clear thinkers it definitely is. To the entrenched media and WNBA apologists they will pass it off as rookie hazing or what have you. Maybe the biggest anti-Clarker is WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes. Insane, made up crap spewed from her even before Caitlin hit the WNBA hardwood.

I mean, she had one of the best rookie seasons ever, first in over 15 years to be first team all league, and swoopes voted for Angel Reese as ROTY—she was the only one out of 67 voters. Pathetic.

Wow, was it somehow confirmed that she was the lone holdout or is that still speculation? I mean it would make perfect sense.

No way of confirming it, but there is no way it was anyone else. There was no logical argument for it. It was done out of spite.
I thought I read somewhere that she said she doesn’t have a vote. She could be lying about that too, but she’s certainly not the only media member who would vote for Reese over Clark.

The interesting thing is that I’m pretty sure the same people who voted for ROY also voted for the All-WNBA teams. And one voter left Clark completely off their ballot for first or second team. Almost certainly the same voter who picked Reese for ROY.

This is an excellent point. It’s easy to forget that within a span of about 6 or 7 months, all within the same calendar year, Clark set the all-time scoring record for NCAA Division 1 players, led Iowa to their second consecutive national title game, went first in the WNBA draft and almost immediately started a new season with a new team, shattered attendance records from coast to coast, brought in unprecedented tv ratings, completely transformed the league on and off the court, and set the all-time single season assists record while leading Indiana to their first playoff appearance in 8 years.

But, yeah, let’s put Ariel Atkins and Aaliyah Edwards on the cover next to her because they worked really hard too.

I hope that is the last bone she throws them and she goes back to focusing on her mantra of working harder than everyone else and earning everything she has. Period. Full stop.

If I’m Clark, I would have an “illness” during both of the Mystics home games this upcoming season and not fly to the game.

Hopefully Clark learns that valuable lesson that making nice comments about people that hate you only adds to the hate.
The thing is she would never do that to the fans who carved out time and treasure to be at the game. She is box office, she knows she’s box office, and she will do everything she can to deliver a show. Other athletes could take notes.

Someone in twitter comments suggested the fever play a game at Lucas oil and sell that thing out. That would be incredible, and I would try to make my way there and have our 4 be part of the 70,000.
