Callie was Miss Iowa Basketball 2024 and part of the fab recruits. She did not get some of the accolaides and hype (rankings) as her frosh peers but this girl is a bucket. She can score. I read that she was recovering from an injury and misse some late summer fall practices. But she can shoot. She can bring energy. It happens all the time kids like Callie get over looked just like Lauren Jensen did because of the hype.

Our season under Jan started well with slowing down the speed and playing defense. But points need to come from somewhere. Point McCabe. Where would be be or how ugly without her. Another example of girls not ..... getting their shot to play.

We cant score. I watch every game (since Doyle 2016 start). Post passes Lob passes .. no one but Lucy can really slash to rim Guyton tries but Syd Kylie and Taylor Stremlow just cant dont and stop and then we turn it over. Point being shoot the ball rather than stupid turnovers. Shoot the ball. Gone is the Bluder theory on good shot to great shot. We dont look like we have a step up scorer.

Love this team. They are fun. At season start they were fast and confident. Defense better with the confidence, And yes we scored and looked easy. BUT as we watched last 10+ games .....
we cant score. Another 10 points from core / starter / or anyone .... we win Illinois and Indiana. 12-5 to 14-3 ..... and not a bubble team.

We need points and a 3 point shooters other McCabe. Tegan Mallegni lost her confidence. Our girls are afraid to shoot as young players via for playing time. Kylie first few games was hoisting 3's and making some. No more. Stremlow plays her role wonderful but not a big scorer. Shes Affolters mirror. Syd was a compliment to Caitlin.

My point of this ..... Give Callie Levin a chance!!!!!! Minnesota Gophers frosh Tori McKinney was under the radar. No Hype. Just ballers. Shes eating up opportunity. You NEVER know. Again JENSEN!!

Give CALLIE a shot. It could be ugly but let her play and shoot. Wont be bad as Kylie Syd no shoot turnovers.

as of now ... maybe Callie is not going play to be redshirted.

We need to shoot the ball. Callie be the next Mackenize Meyer. You know thanks

I very much doubt Callie isn't playing because she had a lower national rating than the other 4 freshmen. If she is better than anyone else on the team she would be absolutely be on the floor. She did have an injury coming in; MAYBE that's slowed her some. I've watched a ton of Iowa HS GBB and I can tell you the drop off in talent from 5A to 4A is significant when going up and down a lineup, and more so at 3A. Showing her drain shots against that level of competition doesn't guarantee she could even get those shots off against Big 10 talent.

I hope Callie eventually sees the floor and does well, but again the chances of her being held back because of some random rankings is pretty much 0%.

If she isn't redshirting I'm all for additional ball handling and shooting ability.

I believe she just lost her redshirting capability.

1) She has played a couple of mins here and there.
2) She hasn't suffered a season-ending injury or illness before the midpoint of the season (that I know of).

Redshirt Rules 101 - Informed Athlete
"NCAA Division I and II
If an athlete enters a contest (at the varsity or JV level), even if only for one or two minutes or for one or two plays, that athlete will be using one of their four seasons of college eligibility.

Once that happens, their only opportunity to get this season “over again” will be if they suffer a season-ending injury or illness before the midpoint of the season and have not exceeded the limit on the number of games played or dates of competition for their sport."

Clarification of the "Four Game Rule" - Informed Athlete
"The “Four Game Rule” that these parents are referring to only applies to the sport of football at the NCAA Division I level.

In every other sport, participation during any portion of a game, meet, or match during the regular season will trigger the use of one of an athlete’s four seasons of competition."

It wasn't abundantly clear to me that she was even the best player on her HS team. As mentioned above the drop from Big10 to class 3A in Iowa is quite a step.

The one game earlier in the year she got a little playing time she looked pretty good I thought. Evidently she's not impressing the coaches in practice. She'll probably transfer out at the end of the year I would imagine

Wrestlers are allowed to wrestle in I believe 5 events as part of the active team and still retain their redshirt. Not sure if basketball has anything similar.

I'd imagine if things were showing up in practice she'd get minutes because if Jensen has shown anything, it's a desire to play a lot of people. Maybe Levin is a gamer though, so hard to know if she can hit when it counts until she's in there.

Rooting for CL, of course, but moreso right now, I'm rooting for Jensen to shorten the bench and find a 5.

Last night, I said that Callie Levin might be this year’s Kali Peschel. Peschel (2012-2016) worked hard and was fun. She started 19 games as a sophomore and 20 games as a senior, but never averaged 20 minutes/game. She did what she could to make the team better.

Outside of a random 2/3 games a year of her high school career, the competition level was pretty meh.

May not be the next off season, but, imo, a UNI level school is probably a better niche.

You could say that about competition for most of the players in the state of Iowa in season. I'm sure she played some off season ball. We could use a couple shooters off the UNI team.

Last night she struggled, turned the ball over multiple times in mop-up duty. I hate to be disparaging so I'll leave it to that.

I'm not going to judge Callie's ability based off the group that was in there getting pressed by Washington's starters. That was pretty pathetic by Washington.
Totally agree, and I'd add that it's unfair to judge her before seeing her play more extensively. We just don't know what we have here yet. This is a deep FR class, and she's just behind some very good young players.

The coaches see everyone every day in practice. If she was ready to play, I would think she would log some playing time. Her HS video was very good, though. Looked like a leader, saw the court well, handled the ball, took it to the basket, and got her shot off quickly.

Never saw her play in HS but everyone playing D1 ball played more AAU-type ball than they did HS. Everyone who plays college ball says the same thing: the hardest thing to get used to is the change in speed. It’s a way faster game. Some take longer to get the game to “slow down” than others.

I used the actual stat sheet instead of talking down on someone seeing their first playing time in about a month. And if I were any player's parents this is the last place I would peruse.
Someone else could have been charged with a TO that on TV looked like it was on her. But stand your ground, it's important
