I remember reading Colorado state champ Lucero committed to Iowa and the HWC back in 2019, but I don’t see him on the roster. Anyone know the scoop?

It is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

Go Hawks!

He deferred enrollment and is training with the HWC.
Pardon my ignorance, but does that mean he’s not currently interested in competing collegiately? Are the HWC guys typically in the room competing against the collegiate boys during the D-1 season? Btw I attempted to read the article you posted, before starting this thread, and it’s been deleted (file not found). It’s why I started the thread.

@UndercoverHawk had a good explanation in a previous thread:

He’s not getting probably any scholly money. So he’s establishing residency in Iowa to get in state tuition. Since he’s not enrolled in school he’s not redshirting. So the HWC can pay his entry fee for open tourneys instead of himself paying as a redshirt. Justin Stickley did the same thing.

Top of screen on the article shows the errors, but if you scroll down, Todd's write-up should still be there.

As far as HWC and college team goes, as I understand it they do practice together. However, I believe that there are rules that limit it somewhat.
